Canvas Update (05/15/2021)

On Saturday, May 15, Instructure will deploy the latest release to the Canvas environment.  The highlights of this release are listed below.  The full release notes are also available.

  • Assignments – Student Annotated Submissions: Instructors can use annotated document assignment type to upload a document for students to annotate and submit directly in Canvas. This assignment type is included under the online assignment types so that instructors can select additional submission options for students unable to annotate onscreen.
  • New Quizzes – Save and Build Button Workflow: The New Quiz creation page includes both a Save and a Build button. When an instructor creates and enters details for a quiz, the page displays both a Save and a Build button. Previously the page only included the Save button, which counterintuitively launched in the New Quiz editor.

Planned Data Center Outage, May 21: Due to a state-initiated project, a temporary power shut-off of the UW-W data center will be required to complete planned maintenance at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 21st, with a targeted return to full service by 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 22nd. During this maintenance window, all IT services, applications, and web pages will be unavailable so please plan accordingly.

Planned Data Center Outage May 21st

Due to a state-initiated project, a temporary power shut-off of the UW-W data center will be required to complete planned maintenance.

Based on the academic calendar and after consulting with a variety of academic, functional and governance areas on campus, it was determined that the least disruptive timeframe would be to start the outage at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 21st, with a targeted return to full service by 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 22nd.

During this maintenance window, all IT services, applications, and web pages will be unavailable so please plan accordingly.

[RESOLVED] Canvas Unplanned Outage (03/25/2021)

RESOLVED: Between 7:40 AM and 9:12 AM on Thursday, March 25th users may have had issues accessing Canvas. For additional details see: Canvas Unplanned Outage. The issue has been resolved. Please reach out to Canvas 24/7 support for any additional issues.

Beginning at roughly 7:40AM on Thursday, March 25th users may have started receiving timeout and gateway errors when accessing Canvas. The vendor is aware of the issue and currently investigating.

We will update this post as more information is available.

Resolved: 9:12AM the issue has been resolved.

Update 8:07AM: The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.

Scheduled Canvas Outage – Thursday, March 25th, 2021

On Thursday, March 25th starting at 3:00 AM Instructure will be performing maintenance on Canvas. The maintenance is expected to take no longer than 60 minutes. Canvas may be unavailable during this maintenance. Please plan your course work accordingly.

[RESOLVED] Canvas Unplanned Outage

RESOLVED: Between roughly 3:29PM and 4:31PM on Wednesday March 3rd, 2021 users may have received an error message when accessing Canvas. The issue has been resolved. Please reach out to Canvas 24/7 support for any additional issues.

Original Message:

Several users have reported “504 Gateway Error” and other related errors when trying to access Canvas and Lockdown Browser. The Instructure Canvas vendor is aware of this issue and they are working towards a resolution.

Resolved: 4:31PM. The issues has been resolved.

Monitoring: 4:07PM. A fix has been deployed, and the Instructure vendor is monitoring results.

Update 4:00PM. The issue has been identified and a fix is in process.

Update 3:50PM. Canvas developers are investigating the cause of the errors. Thank you for your patience.

Streaming.uww.edu (Vbrick Rev) Planned Outage – February 8th

COMPLETE: Sunday 4:30 PM – The upgrade is complete and videos are once again viewable. Thank you for your patience during the extended upgrade outage.

Update: Saturday 7:15 PM – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the outage window has been extended until 8 PM on Sunday, February 9th. We are aware of the impact this may have on your course work. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Update: Saturday 3 PM – The planned outage is taking longer than expected and we’ll be extending the outage window until 8 PM. We’ll update this message once the maintenance is complete.

On Saturday, February 8th 2020 between 9 AM and 5 PM VBrick Rev (http://streaming.uww.edu) will be unavailable for scheduled maintenance. During this outage, we will be deploying the latest version of VBrick Rev.

Videos hosted on Rev will be unavailable during this outage. Please plan your assignments and classwork accordingly.

Planned Maintenance Outage – Sunday 1/12

There are two planned outages happening on Sunday, 1/12 that will impact a number of services including Canvas.

  • On Sunday, January 12th between 12:00 AM (midnight) at 8:00 AM, DoIT in Madison will be performing scheduled Network Maintenance. During this window, there may be periods of time where services are not available. This may impact some Canvas and Kaltura logins, as well as other services listed in the DoIT announcement.
  • On Sunday, January 12th between 12:00 AM (midnight) and 1:00 AM, Instructure will be performing maintenance on the Quizzes tool in Canvas. During this window, there may be periods of time where quizzes are not available.

[RESOLVED] LinkedIn Learning Access Issues

Resolved December 3rd, 6:42 PM. The issue has been resolved and new users are now able to access LinkedIn Learning.

Beginning on December 1st, users who have not previously logged into LinkedIn Learning are receiving an error message when trying to create an account. Users who have logged in prior to December 1st are not impacted. ICIT is working with LinkedIn to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Updates will be posted to this message as they are received.
