Between 3:30pm and 3:50pm on Thursday, October 30th, 2014, users may have received an “Identity Provider Unavailable” message when trying to login to Desire2Learn. The issue was resolved and all systems were functioning properly at 3:50pm on Thursday.

The Turnitin service is now available. The service was unavailable between 10am and 1pm on Friday, October 24th, 2014.
The Turnitin service is currently experiencing a service disruption. Originality Check, Grademark and Peermark are currently inaccessible. The issue started around 10:30am on Friday, October 24th, 2014. The vendor is working to resolve the issue. We will post additional updates as they are received.

From approximately 3:16am until 11:15am on Wednesday, August 20th streaming videos were not available. DoIT technicians have corrected the issue. If you are still having issues viewing your videos, please contact UW-W D2L Support.

UPDATE (8:30 P.M.): Work continues to restore the D2L service.
UPDATE (3:30 P.M.): Power has been restored to the Madison Data Center and work is underway to restore services. At this time, Learn@UW is estimating that the D2L service will be available in 2 to 4 hours pending successful testing and service verification.
We will provide updates on this news item as we receive additional information about the service availability.
UPDATE (1:45 P.M.): At this time, the work continues on restoring power to the Madison Data Center. In conjunction with this mornings inclement weather, there was also a catastrophic battery failure in the Madison Data Center. There is currently no ETA on when services will be restored. We will provide another update around 3:30 P.M. today.

Original Message: Starting at approximately 7:50 A.M. (CT) today, Learn@UW has lost power due to severe weather. This affects any service hosted from the Madison campus, including Desire2Learn. Learn@UW and their technicians are working on restoring services as soon as possible.

With the deployment of the latest Service Pack for Desire2Learn (D2L), a new bug was introduced that causes the “Open in New Window” button within Content items to do nothing for all student roles. This has been confirmed as a bug from Desire2Learn Inc. However, we do not have a timeline for receiving a fix at this time. The image below illustrates the issue as well as the workaround.
Students
When using this workaround, you may receive a Mixed Content warning from the browser. For additional details, see Firefox 23 – Mixed Content Handling.
Instructors
The issue only appears inside of Content items. The work around is to have students click on the Quicklink Content item directly from the Content tool (either through the Table of Contents or that specific module). If you are using a Quicklink in a News item to link to content, the current work around would be to link directly to the URL or file from the News item until the issue is resolved.

Instructors and students can now login to Turnitin services using their UW-W Net-ID. If you have an existing account with the service, the first time you login in you will need to enter your turnitin.com password to link your accounts together. If you have forgotten your password, you can use the forgot password option to reset it. Previously, instructor accounts were created as needed by the Learning Technology Center.
Google Chrome Users: There is currently an issue preventing you from accepting the terms of service box (this only happens during your first login). Until the issue is fixed, you will need to login initially from an alternate browser.
To access Turnitin, initiate the login by going to http://go.uww.edu/turnitin.
Wait, I thought Turnitin was integrated into D2L?
Turnitin has three core services: OriginalityCheck, GradeMark and PeerMark. Currently, only the OriginalityCheck and GradeMark are integrated into the Desire2Learn Dropbox. Additional information is available here: Configuring Originality Check in the D2L Dropbox.
When do I need to login directly to turnitin.com?

With the overhaul of the Content area of Desire2Learn (D2L), we discovered that the new inline document viewer has an issue that impacts some Flash modules/activities that may be embedded in your content. We know that Flash versions of iSpring and legacy eTEACH presentations trigger an issue with the inline document viewer. It appears to only impact Flash modules that are designed to scale to fit the size of the window they are in.
The easiest workaround to view these presentations is to use the “View content in new window” link. This however will not stop the module from running in the parent window which may be confusing to students.
Unfortunately, there is currently not a clean workaround to update the links in D2L. Follow the steps below to correct the issue:

Welcome back to the Spring 2014 semester! As many of you are aware, Learn@UW recently deployed the 10.1 update to our Desire2Learn environment. There are a number of issues that have been reported and that we are working to get resolved with D2L. Below, we just wanted to touch on a few of the major issues that we have been seeing:
Inline Document Viewer
There were two major issues reported with the new inline document viewer:
At this time, configuration changes have been made by Desire2Learn which appear to address these issues.
Popup Windows will not load in Chrome
In Chrome 32.0.1700.76 and earlier, some popup windows will not load correct (Insert Stuff, File Uploads, etc). This issue is reported to be fixed in Chrome 32.0.1700.77. This issue does not impact alternate browsers.
Content Editor Causes Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) to Crash
When you are working with content in IE9, using various tools from the “NEW” HTML editor cause the browser to crash. This issue has been reported to D2L and the current workaround is to enable compatibility mode in IE9 or use an alternate browser.
Quicklinks as Content Topics to Course Files No Longer Supported
In previous versions of D2L, a Quicklink Content item could be made to link to an internal course file. This option is no longer available in D2L, and any Content items made this way previously will not be accessible for download within Content. You can tell if your Content item was made as a Quicklink by looking at the source underneath that item’s title. The workaround is to delete Quicklink Content item and create a new content item using “New” and selecting “Add From Manage Files”.
System.IO.PathTooLongException Error when Copying Courses
In recent versions of D2L they have imposed a file character limited with copying course content forward to new courses. The System.IO.PathTooLongException error will be triggered if you have a file or directory name that is too long. If you do get this error when copying content, the only workaround we currently have is to rename files/directories that have long names. We are hoping there is a better solution for this in the future.

Update: The service interruption has now been resolved. Users may have experienced unusual slowness or received errors between approximately 12:11 PM and 1:08 PM this afternoon (January 24th, 2014). If you are still having issues logging into D2L, please contact UW-W D2L Support.
Users have reported intermittent access interruptions, slowness, and some are receiving “Internal Errors”. Users have also reported the inability to log into D2L, either the process times out or an error is displayed. This has been reported to Learn@UW, and their technicians are looking into the issue.
