Recurring Slowness – Service Issue

Update 7/10, 11:30 AM (CDT) – From approximately 9:40 AM until 10:40 AM today (7/10/12), users might have experienced slow performance and might receive an error message. Learn@UW technicians are currently investigating the source.

Update 7/5, 9:30 AM (CDT) – The reported slowness is still ongoing, and technicians are still investigating the cause. If you’re experiencing slowness in D2L, please note that it may take a few minutes to clear up. We’ll update this news item with any information as we receive it.

We’ve received reports that users are experiencing periods of slow performance that typically clear up within a relatively short time (approximately 3 – 5 minutes).

Learn@UW technologists and D2L are investigating the matter. We will be updating this news item with any new information as we receive it. Thank you for your patience.

[RESOLVED] Slowness Issues with D2L

Outage Report from Learn@UW:
Time frame: ~9:50a – 10:14a
Impact: Users may have experienced slow performance or erratic behavior. We are continuing to receive reports of intermittent slow performance, which may indicate a recurrence of this issue. Users affected by the issue will experience relatively brief periods (~3-5 minutes) of slow performance after which reattempts of the desired action function as expected.
Cause: Learn@UW is working closely with D2L to investigate and identify the underlying cause of the issue. This is top priority issue and D2L.
Resolution: N/A
Next steps: Continued investigation into root cause.

Update 10:46 AM (CDT) – Technologists have resolved the issue at this time and the service should be responding normally.

Starting at approximately 8:00 AM on Tuesday, July 3rd, we are noticing sporadic reports of slowness and 2-3 minute periods where the system may hang.  The issues has been reported to Learn@UW and will be updating this news item with more information as we receive it. Thank you for your patience.

[RESOLVED] Slowness and Internal Server Errors in D2L

Outage Report from Learn@UW:
Time frame: ~10:00a – 11:20a
Impact: Users may have experienced slow performance or erratic behavior.
Cause: The issue that occurred on 7/1 caused instability in the file server cluster that resulted in the behavior reported by users.
Resolution: Steps were taken to ameliorate the situation, which necessitated a brief emergency service outage (~11:45a – 11:55a).
Next steps: N/A

Update 12:01 PM (CDT) – As of 11:55 AM, D2L is once again available.  Technologists continue to investigate the reports of slowness.

Update 10:56am (CDT) – D2L WILL BE UNAVAILABLE from approximately 11:45 AM to 11:50 AM this morning, Monday, July 2, 2012

Starting at approximately 10:08 AM (CDT), users are reporting slowness and occasional internal server errors while trying to access D2L. We’re reporting the issue to Learn@UW and will be updating this news item with more information as we receive it. Thank you for your patience.

[RESOLVED] Internal Server Errors in D2L

Outage Report from Learn@UW:
Time frame: ~9:00a – 2:08p
Impact: Service completely unavailable to users and outage pages posted at 11:45a.
Cause: An unanticipated effect of scheduled maintenance on the Enterprise Storage System rendered the D2L file server cluster inoperable.
Resolution: Mitigating steps were taken to reconfigure the file server cluster and the service was restored. Our investigation into the matter unveiled significant performance problems with the D2L notification feature, which was subsequently disabled based on recommendation from the vendor. The feature will remain disabled, pending further review.
Next steps: The events are actively under internal review.

RESOLVED 2:08 PM (CDT) – Desire2Learn is once available available.  At the recommendation of the vendor, D2L, notifications will be disabled until further notice.  If you continue to have any further issues, please contact D2L support.

Update 2:00 PM (CDT) – Technologists have isolated the problem and expect service to be restored by 2:30 PM (CDT).

Update 12:05 PM (CDT) – The error message has been replaced with a notification that Learn@UW (D2L) is unavailable. Technologists continue to investigate, but we do not yet have an estimate for when the service will be restored. Further updates will be posted prior to 2 PM today.

Update 10:15 AM (CDT) – Technicians are actively investigating the problem, but unfortunately do not have any eta on a resolution at this time.

Starting at approximately 9:14 AM (CDT), users are reporting errors while trying to log in or access D2L. We’re reporting the issue to Learn@UW and will be updating this news item with more information as we receive it. Thank you for your patience.

[RESOLVED] D2L Login Issues

From approximately 7:45 PM to 9:55 PM last night, Thursday May, 17th, users reported issues logging into D2L. The problem has been resolved and users should be able to log in without incident.

[RESOLVED] Users Unable to Login to D2L

Some users may have experienced an unscheduled service interruption between approximately 9:15 and 10:02 PM tonight (4/22/12). Users would have been unable to login to the service during this time frame.

Learn@UW has identified and corrected the issue, and users should now be able to log in. Thank you for your patience!

[RESOLVED] D2L “Runtime Errors”

UPDATE (1:10 PM): Learn@UW has given the “all clear”, and the service issue has been resolved. D2L should now be stable.

UPDATE (12:40 PM): The service issue seems to have been alleviated; however, we have not been given the “all clear” from Learn@UW. Errors may still occur, but D2L can be accessed at this time.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: D2L is currently inaccessible due to errors. We’ve reported this to Learn@UW, and their technicians are looking into resolving the issue.

[RESOLVED] D2L Issue – Term Not Found

UPDATE (8:05 AM): From approximately 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM this morning, users may have experienced “Term Not Found” errors in D2L. Learn@UW technicians have found and removed the server that was causing the errors. D2L should now be functioning normally.

ORIGINAL: Starting at approximately 7:00 AM, users are reporting “Term Not Found” errors while logging into and working in D2L. We’ve reported this to Learn@UW, and they are investigating the problem.

[RESOLVED] D2L Login Problem

UPDATE: Service has been restored. From approximately 8:30 AM to 8:50 AM this morning, D2L was inaccessible due to a UW-W network issue. Users should now be able to log in to D2L.

ORIGINAL POST: UW-Whitewater is currently experiencing network issues which is preventing access to login to D2L. Campus technicians are looking into the issue, and we will update this news item with any new information as we receive it.

[RESOLVED] Term Not Found Errors and Slowness

UPDATE (6:00 PM): Learn@UW technicians have removed an additional server that was causing problems, and the “Term Not Found” errors have been resolved. If you are still experiencing any of the errors, please contact D2L Support.

UPDATE (5:00 PM): Users are still reporting “Term Not Found” errors. These reports have been forwarded to Learn@UW, and they are investigating the source.

UPDATE (4:45 PM): Learn@UW Technologists have identified the offending server and removed it. They are investigating the cause of the problem, but the “Term Not Found” errors should be resolved, and D2L should be accessible again.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Starting at approximately 4:10 PM, users are reporting slowness and “Term Not Found” errors while logging into and working in D2L. We’ve reported this to Learn@UW, and they are investigating the problem.
