Winterm 2017 and Spring 2017 courses requests are available in the D2L Course Request Application. As a reminder, course requests for a semester become available on the first day of priority registration for students. D2L courses need to be requested every semester.

On Saturday, November 5th between 8:00AM and 1:00PM Turnitin.com and Turnitin integration with Desire2Learn will be unavailable for scheduled maintenance. This maintenance will be performed on internal network hardware at Turnitin to increase capacity and ensure continue dependable service.
Instructors are encouraged to modify assignment due dates either before or at least several hours after the scheduled maintenance window.

The UW-Whitewater Learning Technology Center (LTC) is proud to announce support for 10 instructors interested in integrating the Study Pattern tool into their spring courses. Study Pattern is an exciting tool that has the potential to empower students in their learning and enable instructors with the information they need to make decisions regarding their course in way that is easy to use and digest.
Empowering Students
Pattern gives students a space to track their study and learning activities, as well as rate their duration and productivity. Inputting this information creates personalized visualizations of their data and allows them to compare habits with their peers in the same course, empowering them to reflect on the time they are spending on the different learning activities and when they are most productive to ensure they are on the most successful path.
Enabling Instructors
At a glance instructors are able to see aggregated student data for their course (e.g., productivity by day of the week or hour of the day, productivity by activity, number of hours spent on course activities, etc.) through their dashboard, enabling them to make data-driven decisions about course activities and design.
Easy to Access, Use, and Digest
This tool is easily accessed by students and instructors as it is available through a mobile app (both iOS and Android) and/or web interface. Students can easily use the tool to input their activities and instructors and students alike can quickly view their dashboards to gain valuable insights about learning activities and success.
About the Exploration Project
UWW has been allotted 300 licenses from the UW System’s learning analytic tool chest pilot for this specific exploration project. The UW-Whitewater Learning Technology Center has funding to support 10 instructors in their exploration of Pattern. Our contract with Desire2Learn (D2L) for their Brightspace learning management system (LMS) is currently set to expire June 30, 2018. The UW System is preparing for a Request for Proposal (RFP) and would like to gather your perspective of what is needed in a learning management system. Some users may be receiving a message reading “Error communicating with Turnitin. Try to resubmit the file. If this issue persists, contact your administrator”. If you are seeing this error message, please make sure that you have both a start date AND end date set on your Dropbox in Desire2Learn. Once you have set the start and end date, the issue should be resolved and you can resubmit the file.
Warning – Technical explanation below:
With the new Turnitin integration, the way default dates work has been slightly changed. There are actually two separate date settings in play. First, there are the settings that you can create on the Dropbox – start date, end date and due date. Second, there are dates behind the scenes with Turnitin that are calculated based on the settings you choose for the Dropbox.
We have recently discovered that if you create a Dropbox that does not have any start date or end date, the end date that is configured with Turnitin is set to 8 days from the current date. What this means, is that even though the Dropbox is always open, papers will not submit to Turnitin after that 8 day period, and will cause an error to display inside of Desire2Learn when you are trying to review the papers.
Luckily, in order to fix this issue, you simply need to set a start date and end date on the Dropbox. Once these are set, the dates will be updated in Turnitin also which will allow you to resubmit the files. Desire2Learn is working on adjusting this logic for a future release. In the mean time, we highly suggest that you create both a start date and end date when creating a Dropbox that user Turnitin to avoid this problem.

There is now a “Quick Launch” button available within the Desire2Learn WebEx integration. This new option allows you to quickly launch a meeting with only a few clicks.

We have recently updated the vendor documentation for Desire2learn (D2L) to reference the latest versions for D2L 10.6. The documentation can be found on the “My Home” screen when accessing the course in the Student / Instructor Resources Widget located on the right hand side of the screen.

Previously, the only way that you were able to see the date a student last accessed the course was by drilling down unto the user progress tool within the course to find the information. Starting today, we have enabled a new option that will display the “Last Accessed” date right in the class list! This is the date/time that they last accessed the given course.
