Unusual Slowness in D2L

Learn@UW has reported that some users may have experienced usual slowness while trying to login and work in D2L. This started at approximately 2:45 PM (10/31) and ended at approximately 3:22 PM (10/31). Learn@UW technicians are investigating the root cause of this issue, but the service should be now be functioning as normal.

Slowness and Timeout Errors in D2L

Learn@UW has reported that some users may have experienced slowness or timeout errors while accessing and using D2L. This would have started at approximately 10:13 AM and ended at approximately 10:24 AM. The server that was causing the issues has been removed, and the errors should be resolved.

Server Maintenance (10/25)

Learn@UW will be performing server maintenance this Thursday, October 25th during the weekly maintenance window, 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM. D2L will NOT be available during this time frame. Please plan your course work accordingly.

Intermittent Performance Issues

Learn@UW has sent a notice that some users may have experienced slowness or timeout errors accessing and using D2L beginning at approximately 11:03 AM and ending at approximately 12:10 PM. Learn@UW has fixed the issue and the service should be normal again.

iCIT Maintenance Outage, 9/22 – 9/24

iCIT will be performing database maintenance that will affect the D2L Course Request application and the Clicker Registration application. The outage is scheduled to start on Saturday, September 22nd at 7:00 AM and end on Monday, September 24th at 7:00 AM (for a total of 48 hours). Neither of these applications will be available during this window, so please plan your work accordingly.

Upcoming Outages, 8/24 and 8/26

There will be two outages in the next few days that will affect your access D2L.

On Friday, August 24, 2012, starting at 6:00 PM, UW-W iCIT engineers will be upgrading software on network equipment across campus. Services that will be affected include VoIP, network and wi-fi access, campus email, WINS, D2L, and the UW-W home page. The outage is estimated to last ten hours, and campus services will be sporadically unavailable during this time.

Learn@UW utility is also performing network maintenance on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM. During this time, D2L access and availability will be sporadic. It’s recommended that users avoid working in D2L during this time frame to prevent users from losing any work done in their courses.

D2L Service Outage – 7/13

Learn@UW is planning a service outage on Friday, July 13th from 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM. D2L will NOT be unavailable during this time frame.

Learn@UW and Microsoft technicians will be investigating the cause behind the service interruptions and slowness for the past few days. For more information on the previous service outages, please see this blog post: D2L v10 Status Update

D2L v10 Status Update

Below is a summary of the issues we have had with D2L since the upgrade:

Friday, July 13th, 2012 from 9:00 PM until 9:18 PM (CDT), D2L was unavailable for scheduled maintenance to investigate the spontaneous slowness issues.

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 from approximately 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM (CDT), users were reporting reports of slowness and 2-3 minute periods where the system was hanging.  We are continuing to receive reports of intermittent slow performance, and Learn@UW is still investigating the issue. Monday, July 2nd, 2012 from approximately 10:08 AM until 11:55AM (CDT), users were reporting slowness and sporadic internal errors.  Learn@UW performed emergency maintenance from 11:45 AM until 11:55 AM.  Full details of this outage are available at: Slowness and Internal Server Errors in D2L.

Sunday, July 1st, 2012 from approximately 9:14 AM until 2:08 PM (CDT), D2L was unavailable due to a storage system issue.  Resulting from that outage, the “notifications” feature has been disabled until further notice.  Full details of this outage are available at: Internal Server Errors in D2L

At this time, we believe the problem is resolved, but Learn@UW continues to monitor the situation.  If you continue to see issues or problems, please contact D2L Support.

D2L Version 10 Upgrade Outage

Desire2Learn (D2L) is scheduled for an upgrade to version 10. The upgrade outage will start on Thursday, June 28th, 9:30 PM and end on Friday, June 29th, 10:30 AM.

During this timeframe, D2L will not be available. Please plan your course work accordingly. To avoid conflicts, D2L users should complete dropbox submissions, quizzes, or other deadline-driven activities at least a half hour before the outage’s start time.

Network Maintenance on Thursday, June 21

iCIT is planning network maintenance on Thursday, June 21st, from 6:00 am to 7:00am (CDT).  During the maintenance window Desire2Learn will be unavailable.  Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and other LTC Services will also be unavailable during this window.  Please plan your coursework accordingly.
