Hey all,

I’m back for another blog post for the week. This week I thought I would focus on clothing that I have found in the thrift, some I bought and some I left behind. This is a continuing series where I showcase my thrifted items. If you missed last week’s post, focusing on thrifted art, go check it out here. Now, this week is all about clothing, specifically men’s clothes. It’s interesting because there is a lot of times where I buy clothes and I regret it. I get caught up and end up buying something I didn’t really want just because it looked cool or was cheap. You get better at passing on items, once you realize you have just too many clothes! Another note I want to make, if you didn’t really know thrifting is kind of mainstream now! When I first started thrifting, about five years ago, you could find some crazy vintage clothing. Now, there is so much “competition” at every location. It is because the emergence of vintage clothing resellers is prominent. That is a topic of another post though. So without further ado, no more rambling, this is my favorite/memorable clothing at the thrift…

This is a huge personal grail. It features the characters from Seinfeld, my favorite show. It’s quality is subpar, but I had to buy this. You can’t really find any merch from this show. I paid $4.99.

This badger piece was too clean to pass on. I love the collars on sleeves on this and it’s got that vintage feel. I paid $6.99.

This is another piece that just has strong vintage vibes. It’s a crewneck sweatshirt and the branding on it just looks clean. I’m a fan of subliminal branding so of course I had to buy this. I ended up selling this after awhile because it was a little big. I paid $6.99.

This is the best item I have found in the thrift. To those who are unaware, this is a collaboration shirt between Virgil Abloh and UW-Madison. Virgil Abloh is an alumni of UW-Madison and the artistic director for Lousi Vutton. It was a limited time shirt that is now next to impossible to find. The resell value is over $150. I paid $4.99! The item is in pristine condition, almost like when I found it that that was the first time it had been put on a hangar.

Now some of Grant’s quick tips for thrifting clothing:

  1. Sometimes it is good to go in with no expectations of clothing that you are looking for. Ironically, that is when you will find the best items
  2. Don’t skim. You can go through the clothing pretty fast, but always be sure to get a good glance in before you move on.
  3. Sometimes the thrift will have special events. Always go to the clothing ones. If it is a chain thrift store, they will gather items from many locations. Thus, you will get a mix of clothing that you would not have otherwise seen. Special events that I have seen/been to: Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Outdoors clothing, Winter clothing.
  4. If retro is your vibe, check the women’s section. I don’t mean go all out and look through that clothing though. I mostly mean the jackets or the sweatshirts. They often have some really funky colorways in this section that can be unisex. Big 80s and 90s vibes.
