Organizing Process

The organizing process can be something a lot of people struggle with. While I am still in school, I have to organize my graduation process, find a job, still work at the job I have currently and finish off the summer with them, all while I am trying to start my moving process. It is a lot to juggle, that’s for sure! But, organizing is something that comes fairly easy to me and is something I need in order to keep myself neat and tidy. Lists and schedules are a huge part of organizing and I am going to show you how I organize, by using those tools.

Lists:

Essentially, lists are helpful for any situation. Whether you are packing for a trip and need to remember everything you intend to bring. Making a list initiates the process of getting things done and staying on top of what you need to remember. Another example of when I use lists is when I am prioritizing my day. So, when I have a lot to do on that particular day, I write myself a list. This helps your brain remember that you have to get it done. I like to cross off or checkmark whatever I am accomplishing to feel orderly and capable of performing all my tasks. Then I like reviewing my list after I finished. Many studies have shown in students that note-taking, in general, helps us distill the information we hear and remember it better than we would if we’d just heard or read it. For my moving process, I have to organize all my thoughts down onto a list. How I like to do it, is to divide up my thoughts into categories. For example, one list would be for packing, another would be for my summer schedule, another is figuring out a job… etc. Making lists are very helpful and it doesn’t hurt to start somewhere when planning!

Schedules:

Schedules are another essential way to help our brain memorize what we have that is occurring. An important event, a big project that is due, school, work. Whatever it may be, schedules are able to plan out your life however far in advance you want, which I think is the neat thing about them. You are able to plan out your future, without you even knowing it. In my organizing process, a schedule is ideal in order to figure out, schedule, and perform my moving out and moving in process.

  1. I’m glad I read this blog as I just got done with moving and still have a bunch of boxes and bags to unpack. I can use this information to help me prioritize and plan what I need to get done. I typically use a lot of lists to help me organize and I use them most in relation to homework in my planner. I think these are both really good ways to organize.

  2. I like this idea for a blog. I recently moved so I think this blog will help me juggle unpacking, school, and work. I really like the idea of lists and use them but mainly only when I’m packing for vacation. Schedules are also interesting to me because I never really use them and I find it hard to stick to them so maybe there’s tips you might know of to help with that too. Good job!

  3. Hey Emily, great post. I think organization is the greatest driver to productivity for any person. I know that when I started created lists, filling in my daily schedule, and sticking to a good routine I got more of the work I wanted to get done… done! It really is a more simple method than what most people try to make it.

    Great post!
