I’m not quite sure how it happened, but here we are: There’s just 4 short weeks of summer left. While these last 28 days may not seem like much time, there’s a couple actions you can take to making the most of the last moments.
Wake up early
Nope, I’m not joking! Nothing eats away the summer break like moping around beneath the covers. Decide the previous day when you will get out of bed, then make sure you follow through. You’ll be amazed how much you can accomplish by waking up at an earlier hour, and even better, it’ll help you prep for that 8 a.m. Monday class when September rolls around.
Read a book
Everyone should read at least one book over the course of a summer. Not only does reading engage your brain and keep you feeling more awake than idly laying on the beach, but it also allows you to take yourself to another world. Whether it’s science fiction, romance, motivational, adventure or any other genre, the experience of reading a good book is one everyone should have. What better time than summer to have that experience! Plus it’s a proven fact that reading makes you smarter, and let’s be honest…we could all use a little more of that.
Catch up on movies, TV or games
RELAX! Have a Netflix night with some hometown buddies and watch the movies that you never got to see in theaters, catch up on the new season of Dexter or Game of Thrones you didn’t get to finish, and play the video games that everyone else played months ago. While I don’t necessarily advocate for sitting in front of the tube watching infomercials for the sake of vegetating or procrastinating, it’s good to enjoy your down time away just as much as it is to be productive.
Take on the project you’ve been putting off.
The school year likely keeps your schedule full, leaving you little time to focus on the activities, projects, and hobbies that enrich you as a person. The focus of your college experience is to grow academically, but also flourish personally. Use the break from full schedules and studying to put in some hours with your favorite activity or overdue task. Maybe this means spending the time on your bicycle checking out some new trails or getting more organized. Make a list of all of the things you put off when school is in session and select a few that will improve your life.
Make time for family and friends
With the hullaballoo of packing and moving to school, it can be easy to neglect your family and friends from back home. However, after departing in August, it could be weeks or months before you get to see those that mean the most to you. Make a little extra effort to spend some time together these next few weeks. You’ll cherish it more than you can imagine once the school year starts 🙂
Well, there you have it Warhawks! There’s not much time left, so make use of these last few weeks wisely 🙂 We can’t wait to see you back on campus!
