Just over 4 years ago, I stepped onto the UW-Whitewater campus for the first time. I thought making a decision on which college to attend would have been difficult, but after touring UW-Whitewater, I knew it was going to be the best 4 years.
Four years suddenly turned into 8 days left, and I am preparing to graduate from college and move on to the next step of my life. I have made countless memories at UWW, but this is my must-do list before YOU graduate!
1. Get dinner with your friends at Cozumel
Cozumel is the most iconic restaurant in town; you need to grab dinner there during your time at Whitewater! Cozumel is a lively and delicious Mexican restaurant that offers great deals on food and drinks. Whether you’re going as a pair or in a group of over 10, Cozumel has space for everyone to enjoy and hang out. For the price, Cozumel’s authentic Mexican food is a great experience if you need a break from the dining halls.
2. Attend UW-Whitewater sporting events
UW-Whitewater’s Division III programs are some of the most competitive in the state. Attending a Whitewater athletic game is an experience you will not want to miss. Whitewater’s football season takes place at Perkins Stadium, a lively stadium full of fellow Warhawks. The best part of attending a UW-Whitewater athletic game? It’s completely free with your HawkCard. Before you graduate, go cheer on one of our athletic teams at a home game!
3. “Play hooky” with your roommates
Going to class is a top priority, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes taking a day off with your friends is just what you need! Some of the best memories have come from taking a day trip to Janesville or tanning outside when you are supposed to be in class. The next time you need a mental break, plan a day with your best friends to relax and hang out!
4. Take a walk down Main Street through the shops
Many people don’t know about all of the little shops around downtown Whitewater. Before you graduate, take a stroll down Main Street in downtown Whitewater. You can find vintage shops, cat cafes, family-owned restaurants, and more! After checking out what Main Street has to offer, walk over by the water by Second Salem (and stop there for lunch, it’s amazing)! One of my favorite memories was when my sister came to visit and impulsively got her ears pierced at Fink Ink Tattoo & Body Piercing.
5. Make a new memory every day
Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy every day. It feels like I just moved into my room in Wells East, but that was almost 4 years ago. Take advantage of every day you are here, and go explore all of the opportunities this school has to offer! Attend events in the UC, explore the nature trails, or just hang out in your living room with friends. It is easy to find yourself going through the motions as the semesters go on, but remember to be present in where you are in life.
From a sappy, grateful senior, take a chance and check out the list of what you must do before you graduate! UW-Whitewater has blessed me with an amazing education, lifelong friends, and unforgettable memories. Time really does fly, so make the most of it now! Go Warhawks!
