The Magic of Planners

Perfecting your organizational skills in college may be more challenging than expected. However, it is not impossible to master. Staying organized is more than just an aesthetic planner; it’s the key to grades and time management. Let me break down how my planner has helped me master organization as a college student.

First, find yourself a planner.

You might think, “Well, I don’t write in mine, so I never use it.” Let me tell you; there is a planner out there for everyone. Find one that works for you!

I prefer larger planners. I like to have a lot of weekly and monthly space to write out all of my classes, color-coordinate them, and more! Here is a photo of my planner:

Lilly Pulitzer is a new brand I’m trying this year. I really like how they have options for larger weekly and monthly layouts. Click here to shop now!

Second, create a method that makes sense to you.

When it comes to organizing, color-coordinating is a MUST. I “assign” different colors for each of my classes, and highlight the most critical tasks for the week. For example, I have always coordinated blue with my marketing classes, so I use a blue pen to easily recognize of my studies for the week.

Here is how my weekly layout usually looks:

It may look messy to some, (because I like to cross things out as I go) but this method is the key to my classes’ success. At the beginning of each semester, I go through all of my class syllabi and fill out future projects and exams. Filling out important due dates ahead of time has made a significant difference in how productive I am during the week.

I don’t think I could get through the year without using a planner because it helps keep my life so organized. It’s such an easy solution to becoming more organized and reaching deadlines for school. I also use the method of crossing/checking assignments off when I finish them because it makes me feel productive and accomplished. Planners are a lifesaver, especially in college!
