My paint project this week. These are the two garden flats that appear beyond windows upstage. When these are done, there are two city flats which also appear beyond the windows. They are currently sitting in the black box theatre, traced out, waiting for me to get to them.

Design displays of two Whitewater students, Claire Kinder and Tiffany Tresemer, who both were named finalists in the make-up design division. They both received honorable mention (second place). And kudos as well to Tracey Lyons, who teaches our make-up class.

This is picture of virtually the whole Whitewater contingent in the elevator after it was announced that Marcus Cunningham was a finalist in the Irene Ryan acting competition. Marcus was the very first Whitewater student to ever make the finals. He’s over on the right hand side in a tie facing away from the camera…

And finally, a group of the students getting ready to watch the ten-minute plays, in which a number of our students were cast. One of the best things about this year’s group was how they supported each other throughout, regardless of whether their own efforts moved up the ladder.

Love’s Labour’s Lost

Base coats on the platforming for “Love’s Labour’s Lost.”   Circuiting is happening at the same time, so that’s freshman Jake Taylor standing there with his lighting stick.   I’m glad he waited until the paint was dry.  The collage painting on the stage floor is left over from this past summer’s “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” designed by student Keenan Minogue.

In an earlier post, I mentioned that we were going to go with carpet, and I changed the rendering to reflect these textures.  Sadly, the budget won’t allow it, so we’re back to paint.

The final project for the scenic portion of Introduction to Theatrical Design was due yesterday, and here are some of the projects on the bulletin boards outside the classroom.  Students chose to work on one of these three plays:  “The Weir,” “The Holy Rosenbergs,” and Wole Soyinka’s version of “The Bacchae.”

The set for “Spirits to Enforce” progresses.  By the end of the afternoon, student scenic designer Keenan Minogue will have dealt with his floor treatment and be ready for first tech, this evening.  Standing on stage at the table is student lighting designer Lexie Strullmyer, cutting gel for some of the set mounts.
