Women’s Basketball The UW-Whitewater women’s basketball team played Hope for the National Championship on Saturday in Pittsburgh, PA. The game was close the whole first half. In the second half, Hope took control, and won the game and the National Championship, 71-58. Rebekah Schumacher led 

Warhawks Advance to the Elite 8

Warhawks Advance to the Elite 8

The Warhawk women’s basketball team started the NCAA Championship with a win against Ripon with a final score of 58-34. In the next round they faced Illinois Wesleyan and came out on top 72-54 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. In the Sweet Sixteen, the Warhawks faced Smith College. In the very close game, regulation ended in a tie, forcing overtime. In the closing seconds of overtime, tied 76-76, it was Smith’s ball. On the inbound, Rebekah Schumacher stole the inbound pass and scored the go-ahead layup with 0.5 seconds remaining. The Warhawks advance to the Elite 8 with a 78-76 victory. They will face UW-Oshkosh with hopes of advancing to the Final Four.
