Sickness, and home remedies

We’ve all been there, it’s the middle of the semester, spring is right over the hill, and BAM! You get taken down by a cold or the flu. That is actually the worst, because once the warmer weather starts, everyone wants to be out enjoying it, which is hard when you have a sore throat and stuffy nose.

But, fear not! There are a few at home things you can try to give yourself some relief from the woes of constant tissues and cough drops.

Sore Throat:

To help relieve a scratchy painful throat, gargling with a teaspoon of salt mixed with a glass of warm water can help. Not only does the warm water soothe the throat but it can help to flush out any bacteria and loosen the mucus that sits and makes your throat feel sore.

Congestion relief:

Although you may be fatigued and not feeling much like doing anything, but getting out of bed and taking a hot shower can help in giving you some relief if you have a sinus headache or nasal congestion.

The steam from the shower can help to reduce swelling in you nasal passages, as well as thin out mucus and give you some relief, and reduce your symptoms.

If you want an extra boost of energy and relief from a stuffy nose, you can place a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil in the shower for a tingly congestion relief.

Blowing the nose:

Obviously, when you’re sick blowing your nose becomes like second nature. It sometimes can seem like your life becomes a constant of blowing your nose and keeping up with a runny nose.

But it is important to blow your nose as frequently as possible when you’re sick, because keeping the mucus inside your nose can cause unnecessary pressure and pain in your ears. However, there is a proper way to blow your nose, for the best results and least amount of pressure build up.

To do it properly, you should block on nostril, and gently blow into a tissue, and then switch to the other side. Doing this properly will help give you the best relief results.

Always remember that these are simply just remedies to give you some symptom relief and feel a little more human while you are fighting your sickness, they most likely will not cure you sickness, and are never meant to replace the medical advice of a doctor, or healing powers of prescribed medication.

If you symptoms last longer than 7-10 days, it is recommended to seek medical attention for your sickness.
