Hard Rock Spotlight: Saul

For this week’s blog, I want to focus on a newer upstart band called Saul who just released an album today. The band, who are based out of Iowa, did a couple small projects in 2019, but this is their first full album. Titled Rise As Equals, this album, and the band itself, seems to favor hard rock and alt-metal songs.

I listened to the album and I found a couple songs that I liked from them. They use heavy guitars, one of which is a 7-string, and many of their songs are tuned to drop G# for hardcore sounds. I would say their style of music is similar to Five Finger Death Punch, where half of their songs are straight metal with scream singing and the other half are brighter and have a catchy tune one would hear on the radio. Heavy metal isn’t something I usually listen to, so I wasn’t really a fan of that portion of the album. The other half though, had choruses that I found myself singing along to after only a couple times of listening to them. It was a decent first album and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for what they produce in the future.

Three songs from the album that I really enjoyed were “King Of Misery,” “Looking To Fight,” and “Rise As Equals” (which shares its name with the album). The music video for “King Of Misery” and the audio for “Looking To Fight” and “Rise As Equals” is below. To listen to the full album, click here.

I am a huge rock music fan myself (I’ve got tickets to the Def Leppard/Motley Cru concert) and I can really jam to this band. I am always looking out for new music to listen to. They remind me a little of Shinedown and Godsmack but still, an amazing band that you highlighted here.

Hi Kimberly! I was going to see the Def Leppard/Motley Crue concert as well in Milwaukee over the summer but since it got cancelled, I’m not sure when I’ll get to see them next. Godsmack is also one of my favorite bands. Maybe in a few years Saul will be as big as they are.

This is a super cool blog! I love Motley Crue and the movie that was made about them. I dont know much about rock music but this was very insightful!
