Greetings, Optimists,
It definitely looks like a winter wonderland out there! That means it’s a perfect time for our Mitten Tree Project and “Gifts With A Meaning!” Please join us for a fun-filled meeting for both of these projects this Tuesday, December 13 in UC 259A. We encourage you to bring a guest to join in the fun. Mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks and children’s underwear are still needed. These items will be donated to the representatives from the Whitewater Unified School District on Tuesday. You are encouraged to also bring a gift that represents you. Brenda O’Beirne will facilitate our guessing activity. The gifts will then be donated to our toy wrapping project for the Whitewater Food Pantry.
Our next Board Meeting will be on Wednesday, December 14 at Second Salem in Whitewater from 5pm – 6pm.
We will hold our last meeting of the semester on Tuesday, December 20–featuring “Youths of the Month” from the high school. In addition, Ryan Callahan (from Continuing Education) will be our guest speaker.
We will not have a meeting on Tuesday, December 27. Take time to enjoy the holidays, family and friends! Our meeting on Tuesday, January 3 will be held in UC 69. We will not be having a catered meal for this meeting.
That brings us to Friday, January 6 with the opportunity to help with judging the Academic Decathlon on campus. Therese has put out a request asking for folks to serve as judges. Please see the email she sent last week–or reply to Kennedyt@uww.edu if you are able to volunteer.
That’s a wrap for now.
Just Keep Smiling,
Kim and Angie 🙂

Hello Optimists,
This weekend saw the Warhawk football team wrap up an undefeated season, which will lead to hosting the playoff games for the next several weeks. This Saturday, November 19, the Warhawks will host Lakeland College at 12:00pm. Go Hawks—and thank you ticket takers! Frank will be sending out updated sign up sheets.
Speaking of sign up sheets, Lanora is coordinating our Breakfast with Santa (BWS) sign up sheet. We are in need of cooks. Please check your schedules and see if you are able to assist—even if for a few hours. I meet with a couple of the Student Optimist executive members tomorrow, and we will be talking about staffing BWS, as well as the Holiday Parade. Our Club will stuff goodie bags for BWS at our meeting on Tuesday, November 29.
Saturday, November 12, was the kickoff event for Youth Appreciation Week—with seven of us serving as chaperones for the movie “The Secret Lives of Pets.” There were around 130 participants, and two theaters were opened to excited viewers. Sue from the Theatres of Whitewater seemed pleased with the attendance, as they were busy with concessions. Thank you to Ken, Duane, Barb, Chloe, and Ben (Student Optimist) for helping to chaperone. Angie and I were there to support the event, as well.
Tuesday will bring a large turnout for the Youth Appreciation Luncheon in UC 259 A & B. We hope you can join us for lunch and to hear the presentations from the various school councils, JOOI Club, and Octagon Club.
Wednesday, November 16, will be the bowling event for kids at Hawk Bowl. Thank you to Therese, some of our members, and a handful of Student Optimist who will serve as helpers for this annual event. A report will be shared next week!
Please note that our calendar of events is posted on our Club web site. We will run updates on a regular basis as new information about speakers and times for future events are confirmed. Please check your schedules to see if you will be available to participate in caroling at Fairhaven on December 9, our “Gifts with a Meaning” meeting on December 13, or in wrapping gifts for the Food Pantry on December 19.
That’s it for now. Have a great week!
Always with Optimism,
Kim and Angie

Greetings Optimists,
Our next general member meeting will be August 16 at 12 Noon, in UC 261. Our speaker with be Traci Wilson, updating us about W3 (Working for Whitewater’s Wellness).
Once the officers/board members for 2016-17 are voted on, an announcement will be sent out through the various community publicity channels announcing the board and that the club is continuing to serve the community AND that the club welcomes new members.
Current events needing helpers:
NFL “FUND CRAZR” RAFFLE TICKETS!! We are now selling the final 13 of 200 total tickets for this year’s NFL Fund Crazr raffle.
Please return any money for sold tickets, ticket stubs, and any unsold tickets to me by August 18! If you can’t sell all the tickets you presently have, I will be able to give them to other club members who have “sold out” their own set(s) of tickets. All sold ticket stubs and unsold tickets must be returned to the SWIS District before August 28. Selling 200 tickets will probably net the club $2,400. If you haven’t bought one for yourself yet, contact me to do so. There are about 10 club members who could simply buy one ticket each and we would be out of tickets.
