My name is Kylie Lang, I use she/her pronouns and have been a UC employee for a year. I work as a UC Marketing Assistant in the Graphics and Marketing Department, which is a vibrant and uplifting workplace where I eagerly anticipate each workday. I enjoy seeing my coworkers and I can’t imagine a more enjoyable environment. Our team is dedicated to fostering a welcoming atmosphere and effectively promoting UC events.

What does an average day look like working for the UC? What does your position entail?

  An average day as a Marketing Assistant at the UC begins with catching up with my coworkers, reviewing my to-do list, working on my social media schedule and the descriptions of upcoming events. Each week, I hang posters in Esker Dining Hall, Upham Hall, Hyland Hall, the University Bookstore, and the Roseman Building. Additionally, I manage the UC Facebook page, collaborate on marketing plans to help departments analyze their metrics, take photos, and plan special marketing events for various holidays.

What does being a UC employee mean to you?

  Being a UC employee fosters both professional and personal growth. It means committing to excellence, bringing your best to work every day, and striking a balance between professionalism and fun. It involves creating a positive and inclusive work environment, contributing to the university community, and taking pride in being part of an organization that plays a crucial role in the UC experience.

What are some of the most memorable days/moments working for the UC?

    One of my most memorable moments working for the UC was creating a High School Musical end of the year reel in the Graphics and Marketing office. I remember having to film multiple takes because paper kept flying everywhere. It was a fun and entertaining experience, made even better by sharing it with my coworkers in my department.

Why should students visit the UC?

  Students should visit the UC because it is truly the heart of campus. From bowling in Warhawk Alley to attending a UC Live event, the UC offers a diverse array of experiences. It provides a welcoming environment, fostering collaboration and offering essential resources to students and community members. Whether you’re socializing, grabbing a bite to eat, accessing services, or immersing yourself in cultural experiences, the UC is a home away from home.

How will your position at the UC help you in your future career?

My position at the UC helps me with valuable skills in time management, social media marketing, content creation, collaboration, and project management. This role provides a deep understanding of operations within a dynamic office environment, preparing me for future career challenges. Additionally, the experience of maintaining the UC’s image and contributing to a positive campus atmosphere shows a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism. These skills and qualities will undoubtedly benefit me as I advance in my career.

How do you balance school, work, extracurricular activities, and a social life?

   Balancing school, work, extracurriculars, and a social life is challenging, but it can be managed with effective time management, communication, and prioritization skills. I use a calendar to dedicate specific time to each task and to prioritize what is most important. Additionally, I use a calendar to help prioritize self-care to maintain my mental and physical well-being.
