Lacrosse has been one of the fastest growing sports over the last few years and UW-Whitewater has an opportunity for you to be a part of the fun! Women’s lacrosse is a club sport offered here on campus. You may be thinking, “It seems like an awesome sport to try, but I have no experience.” To that we have to say, that is okay! No experience is needed and we have completely new players join us every semester. Our club was founded in 2011 with an emphasis on hard work, dedication, team building and a love for the sport. Many people join our club because they want to meet some awesome new people, they want to stay in shape, try something new or have a passion for the sport of lacrosse. Lacrosse teaches coordination, developmental skill, ball handling, speed, agility and teamwork.
We make sure to teach new players the game slowly and make sure they are comfortable while also challenging themselves. We have some extra equipment for girls who would like to try it out and join us! Practice is a great way to improve upon skills and get to know other players. We practice on Sunday’s from 7pm-9pm and Tuesday’s from 8pm-9:30pm. All of our practices are in the William’s Center Fieldhouse until spring hits and it is nice enough to play outside on the intramural fields.
Our team competes in the North Central Women’s Lacrosse League. This semester we will be playing about 9 games. This spring we will have two home games at Perkins Stadium. We will also be traveling to UW-River Falls and UW-Oshkosh for tournaments, so we will only be gone two weekends. Our schedule is posted below, but the times and opponents may change due to weather or scheduling conflicts. Our club is not a huge time commitment, but with the limited hours per week we do have, we ask that everyone brings good energy and a positive attitude. We do understand that school does come first, so do not stress about the time commitment! Aside from the sport, our team makes strong friendships and plans fun team bonding activities to make sure everybody makes great memories along the way. In the past we have done game nights, team dinners and bonfires.
If you are interested in our club, please feel free to come to a practice and try it out. Contact Mykaela Harrington at harringtmr30@uww.eduif you want more information or have any questions! Follow us on Instagram at “uwwwomenslacrosse” and Facebook @uwwwomenslaxclub.
