You cannot use cash in order to ride the CTA trains; you must purchase either a pass or a fare card. Passes and fare cards will work on buses and trains, but will not work on the Metra (commuter train).

Using Public Transportation
The Purple Line train that runs through Evanston has two stops close to Northwestern University (Foster and Davis Street). The Purple Line train goes to Howard, where you can transfer to a Red Line train that goes south downtown and toward the “Loop” (downtown Chicago).
