Outage Report from Learn@UW:
Time frame: ~9:00a – 2:08p
Impact: Service completely unavailable to users and outage pages posted at 11:45a.
Cause: An unanticipated effect of scheduled maintenance on the Enterprise Storage System rendered the D2L file server cluster inoperable.
Resolution: Mitigating steps were taken to reconfigure the file server cluster and the service was restored. Our investigation into the matter unveiled significant performance problems with the D2L notification feature, which was subsequently disabled based on recommendation from the vendor. The feature will remain disabled, pending further review.
Next steps: The events are actively under internal review.
RESOLVED 2:08 PM (CDT) – Desire2Learn is once available available. At the recommendation of the vendor, D2L, notifications will be disabled until further notice. If you continue to have any further issues, please contact D2L support.
Update 2:00 PM (CDT) – Technologists have isolated the problem and expect service to be restored by 2:30 PM (CDT).
Update 12:05 PM (CDT) – The error message has been replaced with a notification that Learn@UW (D2L) is unavailable. Technologists continue to investigate, but we do not yet have an estimate for when the service will be restored. Further updates will be posted prior to 2 PM today.
Update 10:15 AM (CDT) – Technicians are actively investigating the problem, but unfortunately do not have any eta on a resolution at this time.
