how I got started

I had no idea where to start when I became interested in the topic of photography. When you start a hobby, it may seam intimidating at first because you aren’t sure really where to begin. In this blog I will be giving everyone tips and tricks of how I got started.

To begin, I first reached out to the photographer that did my senior pictures. I think it is a really good idea to find a mentor. It will make it a lot easier to talk to someone who is really experienced in the field so you can ask questions and get a better idea of what to do to begin.

I met with Madeline (my mentor) and we talked about the basics of cameras and editing. We also talked about her job and what her day to day life looks like as a photographer. I brought my notebook and pen and wrote down as much as a could. She gave me ideas of books and podcasts to listen to as well.

Some of the podcasts include:

The Beginner Photography podcast, The Six Figure Photography podcast and Photography Daily.

Reading books that are inspiring can help a lot too! Books can boost your ambition and motivation toward your hobby. It will help you strive toward your dreams and will overall increase your knowledge.

Some of my favourite books include:

The Happiness of Pursuit, Obsessed and What You Were Born For

  1. Hello Holly! These are great ways to get started! I’ve always thought photography was so cool, but I just don’t have an eye for it (but I wish I did).
