Bye Week For the Packers

So this is a weird week in the NFL. Week 5, the first time this season that there is a game happening on Tuesday night. The Bills and the Titans will play on Tuesday night due to positive COVID tests coming from the Titans throughout the week. Since the Packers are on a bye this week I’ll be talking about the best performers the worst performers for Fantasy Football this week, excluding Bills and Titans players because I’m writing this before that game. Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Titans running back Derrick Henry are sure to be key components of some people’s fantasy teams but because they happen to play on Tuesday I won’t be talking about them. Also, to keep it short and sweet I’ll just be going over Quarterbacks, Running Backs, and Wide Receivers.

Top performing Quarterbacks for week 5:

  • Patrick Mahomes (KC) – 39.1 fantasy points – 340 pass yards, 21 rush yards, 2 pass TD, 1 rush TD, 1 int | If you have Mahomes he was sure to help you pull out the victory in fantasy even though the Chiefs had their first loss of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • Deshaun Watson (HOU) – 36.5 fantasy points – 359 pass yards, 25 rush yards, 3 pass TD, 2 int | Watson is finally coming into form, having multiple passing touchdowns the past 3 weeks. With the firing of Texans head coach Bill O’Brien helping Watson with a revitalized offense he remains a must start until his bye week.

Most Disappointing Quarterbacks for week 5:

  • Dak Prescott (DAL) – 14.8 fantasy points – 166 pass yards, 7 rush yards, 1 int | I’m sure Dak would’ve put up some great numbers if he hadn’t suffered a gruesome ankle injury. He had successful surgery on his ankle Sunday night and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Just an unfortunate and sad injury.
  • Lamar Jackson (BAL) – 19.3 fantasy points – 180 pass yards, 3 rush yards, 2 pass TD, 2 int | Lamar threw for 2 touchdowns which is all his team needed in a dominant win against the Bengals. The Ravens defensive did all the heavy lifting with a fumble return for a touchdown as well as holding the Bengals to only 3 points. Next week against the Eagles Lamar is sure to have a better fantasy performance.

Top Performing Running Backs for week 5:

  • Miles Sanders (PHI) – 29.9 fantasy points – 80 rush yards, 19 receiving yards, 2 rush TD | Miles Sanders has his least amount of rushes on the season but scores 2 touchdowns giving him only 3 on the season so far. He’s been mediocre but hopefully this performance is the start of something good.
  • Mike Davis (CAR) – 29.9 fantasy points – 89 rush yards, 60 receiving yards, 1 TD reception | Mike Davis has been a great fill in for the injured Christian McCaffrey having his best week so far, but with McCaffrey possibly coming back next week his product is sure to go down.

Most Disappointing Running Backs for week 5:

  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire (KC) – 11 fantasy points – 40 rush yards, 40 receiving yards | Quite the empty stat sheet for Edwards-Helaire who has been having less production each week. It’s disappointing seeing him get only 10 carries against the Raiders.
  • Kenyan Drake (ARI) – 13.2 fantasy points – 60 rush yards, 2 receiving yards, 1 rush TD | His touchdown saved him from yet another abysmal performance. Drake just has not been about to do anything so far this year with his best fantasy performance coming in week 1 and even then he only put up 14.5

Top Performing Wide Receivers for week 5:

  • Adam Thielen (MIN) – 29.3 fantasy points – 9 catches, 80 receiving yards, 2 TD | Thielen carved up the awful and injured Seahawks secondary this week. The heroics of Russell Wilson in the fourth quarter thwarted the Vikings form a win on Sunday night football though.
  • Jamison Crowder (NYJ) – 27.6 fantasy points – 8 catches, 116 receiving yards, 1 TD | Crowder had another great week after coming back from injury. Although he’s missed 2 weeks with injury, his 3 weeks that he has played, he’s been one of the most consistent wide receivers thus far.

Most Disappointing Wide Receivers for week 5:

  • Amari Cooper (DAL) – 4.1 fantasy points – 2 catches, 23 receiving yards | Cooper had a very very quiet week, I would say mostly due to the departure of his starting quarterback. He’s Wide Receiver 7 on the season and is sure to bounce back from this pathetic performance.
  • DJ Chark (JAC) – 4.6 fantasy points – 3 catches, 16 receiving yards | After missing week 3 Chark came back in a big way in week 4 against the Bengals getting 29.5 fantasy points. With many owners plugging him into their lineups hoping for a repeat were found very disappointed.

  1. This bye week seems to come at a good time for the Packers. Davante and Clark will be big to have healthy for the Bucs. I’m also looking forward to seeing EQ and Kamal Martin playing.

  2. I think that there is a lot of interesting ways to look at this bye week for the Packers. Yes it helps out now with some of the main guys down with injuries but at the same time it would have made sense to have it later on in the season to prepare more for that part of the schedule. This is going to be interesting to see how the Packers do coming out of this early bye week.
