Start Em or Sit em? Week 3 Editon

Week 2 of the NFL was a tough one for most fantasy teams as there were a lot of injuries. It was an episode of the Oprah show where she was giving out free injuries to everyone. Hopefully, all of these injuries will please the football gods, and there won’t be another weekend like this. But the show must go on! Here are your starts and sits for week 3 of the 2020-2021 season.

Quarterbacks

Start Em

Gardner Minshew JAC vs MIA

Minshew has been hot lately, like red hot. Three touchdowns in both his games. This week won’t be any different as he is up against the atrocious Miami Dolphins defense. Cam Newton and Josh Allen played great against Miami. I expect Minshew to score over thirty points this week, just like Josh Allen did in week two. He is top 5 quarterback this week.

Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs JAC

Its Fitzmagic season again, and going against a Jaguars Defense that just got scorched last weekend for four touchdowns and in week one gave up 363 yards to Rivers. I expect the Mia vs. Jacksonville game to be a high scoring game, and Fitzpatrick is a QB 1 this week.

Sit Em

Daniel Jones NYG vs SF

With the loss of Barkley for the season, Daniel Jones becomes almost obsolete. Especially against the SF defense, even though SF has many key players injured like Bosa out, I still do not believe Jones can have a good game against this defense. With SF QB Jimmy Garoppolo out, this will be an old school football game where there will be a lot of running the football and a low scoring game. I would stay away from Jones for now at any cost.

Running Backs

Start Em

Joe Mixon CIN vs PHI

I suspect this week will be the bounce-back week for Mixon. He has not been good the last to games averaging only a mere 9.85 points a game. I don’t buy into the Eagles defense at all. I believe they won’t handle Joe Burrow Throwing the ball, which will open up the running game, and Mixon will also see some targets. Should be a set bet play where he will get at least 15 points

Jerick McKinnon SF vs NYG

Like I said earlier, this game will be an old school running football game. It also helps that their QB Jimmy is out so that they will be dependent on the run, and he should see a lot of touches. The amount of volume he will see with both Mostert and Coleman out this week is good enough to start him as an RB 2/High-end flex

Sit Em

David Johnson HOU vs PITT

Johnson is coming off a weak performance in week 2 with only 34 yards on 11 carries. That’s only 3.1 yards per carry! Also, no touchdowns. This week won’t be any different as he is going up against a stingy Pittsburgh defense where they only give 2.9 yards per carry. If anything, Johnson will do worse then he did in week 2. He should be a low-end flex if you need him. Otherwise, sit him.

Any of the Giants Running backs NYG vs SF

This just became a mess of a backfield. I know I said this would be a run-heavy game, but Lewis and Gallman’s shared load will make them both bad choices to play. I also think the SF front line will hold them pretty good in the running game. I would social distance as most as possible with this backfield.

Wide Receivers

Start Em

M. Brown BAL vs KC

This game will be explosive with points, at least on the Ravens side of things. I like Brown this week. He has been targeted six times in both games this season, so the production is there, but he has yet to find the endzone. I bet that changes this week. He is a low-end number one receiver this week, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he is in the top 3 for the week.

Kenny Golladay DET vs ARI

Golladay is Back, baby! Detroit will fall behind, making Stafford throw the ball a lot, and the running game did not impress me at all last week against a Green Bay defense without Kenny Clark. I like all the Lions wide receivers, but I believe Stafford will lean on Golladay more. I am looking at at least six catches, a substantial number to start him as a solid number two this week.

Sit Em

Robert Woods LAR vs BUF

Woods was quite against the Eagles with only two targets with five targets for 14 yards. It’s going to be another quiet game for him this week against the formidable bills defense. Also, there are many mouths to feed in this offense with Kupp and the rising star Higbee. I see one of these guys could have a solid fantasy production this week but not Woods.

Tight Ends

Start Em

Nick Fant DEN vs TB

I believe Fant is TE1 tier now and is worth starting every week as he is averaging 14.71 yards per catch and has scored a touchdown in both games so far.  He will see more production this week as the rookie Joe Burrow continues to lean on him a bit.

Tyler Higbee LAR vs BUF

Higbee was a touchdown magnet in week two with three touchdowns on five for five and 54 yards. I don’t think he will repeat his performance in week three, but he will undoubtedly see RedZone action, which means he is worth starting as his upside is too much to ignore.

Defense

Start Em

Chargers LAC vs CAR

The Chargers defense showed up to play against KC and showed what they are capable of. I expect the Chargers to rip apart Carolina as they lost their star McCaffery and don’t have much talent besides him. With the number one running back out for a couple of weeks, nothing is stopping the chargers from having an outstanding performance this weekend.

Sit Em

Cardinals ARI vs DET

I expect the Cardinals to win handsomely, but the defense will have a lousy fantasy production as Matthew Stafford, and the lions showed they can still but points up on the board. With Golladay’s return, I believe this game to be a high scoring affair, leaving both defenses irrelevant this week for fantasy.
