Fable II

Fable II is the second game in the Fable series developed by Lionhead Studios. It was released in 2008.

The story in Fable II is that you are a homeless orphan living with your sister on the streets of Albion. The Heroes’ Guild doesn’t exist anymore after Jack of Blades was defeated in Fable and that everything is a lot safer now. You and your sister wish for a better life and to hopefully live in a castle one day. That night you get taken to the castle in Albion but later find out it was only to see if you have any blood of past heroes. Your sister gets killed by the lord and you fall into the lake and barely survive.

Theresa later finds you and raises you to become another Hero that Albion needs. The main quest then is to now find the 3 other heroes and prevent the lord of the castle to complete the Tattered Spire and send Albion into a new dark age.

I have mentioned in a previous blog article about the dog you hang out with in Fable II. You meet the dog when you are homeless with your sister and he never leaves your side when you grow up and become the Hero. In the game you can teach your dog tricks, get it toys and a collar, have it find treasure for you, and also fight side by side.

But don’t forget all the possible side work you can do in the game to earn extra money. There is blacksmithing, wood chopping, bartending, and also being a landlord.

Fable II is available only for the Xbox 360.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is another of the many Assassin’s Creed games created by Ubisoft and was released in 2010.

It has the same style of gameplay that all the Assassin’s Creed games have. Which makes it easy to keep playing the games when you learn new gameplay styles each time. Brotherhood is the continuation of Ezio Auditore in 1499. The next chapter in his story takes you to fallen times in Rome. There you once again have to prevent the Templars from finding any pieces of Eden and taking control of people’s freewill. Still fighting the Templars you help rebuild the Assassin’s Brotherhood by taking in people and training them to become like you and help fight. Ezio even starts his journey on becoming the Grandmaster Assassin in the Brotherhood.

Rebuilding the Brotherhood is more of a side faction quest in the game and very fun to do. You can recruit new Assassins by saving Roman citizens from being attacked or even killed by Templars. But don’t forget to get buildings for your new crew, or else they have nowhere to go. Later on in the quest you also initiate Ezio’s younger sister into the Brotherhood. Once you unlock the feature of thieves, mercenaries, and courtesans within the new Brotherhood you can start using them to distract or even fight by your side against the Templars.

Apart from rebuilding the Brotherhood you also get the chance of restoring Rome to its former glory. Simply by restoring buildings and stores within Rome with money which later on help you gain more money and allies within the game.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is available for Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and PC.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the most popular game in the Elder Scrolls series created by Bethesda and originally released in 2011.

Skyrim is set in the same world as all the other Elder Scrolls games. It is about 201 years after the events of Oblivion taking place in Skyrim. Skyrim is a more Nordic providence compared to Oblivion and in the game there is a civil war going on between the Stormcloaks, native Nordics, and the Imperial Legion.

You as the player are a Dragonborn, a mortal with the soul and power of a dragon. You find out after being almost executed, but interrupted by the return of Alduin, the primary antagonist, a dragon that wants to destroy and consume the world. The main quest as the Dragonborn is to find and kill all of the revived dragons. Also, to kill Alduin and prevent the destruction of the world.

Of course one of the main features of the game that everyone loves is fighting the dragons and learning their Shouts, the power of the dragons, but there are many other side quests and guilds you can explore. You can even choose a side in the civil war and help fight for the Stormcloaks or the Imperials.

Even though Skyrim is over 8 years old by now people are still playing and enjoying the game. The main source behind that is modding community. There are insane mods that you can find and add to your game from making dragons into Thomas the Tank Engine, to getting customized player’s houses or cities, to event mods that are practically DLCs for the game and has as much content as the main game itself.

Skyrim is available for the PC, Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and the Switch

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a MMO role-playing game in the Star Wars universe, developed by Bioware and released in 2011.

In this game you play in the Star Wars universe during the shaky peace between the re-emergent Sith Empire and the Republic. You get to play one of the eight different classes in a three part story line. You can choose to align with the Sith or the Republic, but watch out because you can easily switch between the light and dark morality no matter which side you are on.

Each side, Sith or Republic, contains different classes (8 in total). For the Republic you can become a Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Trooper, or a Smuggler. For the Sith there is Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor, Imperial Agent, and Bounty Hunter. And there are different companions and friends you can gain along the way depending on what class you chose. Now the story you play in the game will change depending on what class you chose. So if you think about it you can play this game about 8 times.

Another feature apart from the character class is what species you want to play as, but some species are limited in certain classes. On both sides you can play as a human, cyborg, twi’lek, and zabrak. On the Sith side you can also choose from the Chiss, Rattataki, and Sith Pureblood. On the Republican side there is also the Miraluka and Mirialan species.

Ever since SWTOR was released in 2011 there have been many expansion packs also released to the game. Which is easier to do for a PC games than console games. There was the Rise of the Hutt Cartel in 2013. The Galactic Starfighter, Galactic Strongholds, Shadow of Revan in 2014. Knights of the Fallen Empire in 2015. Knights of the Eternal Throne in 2016 and Onslaught in 2019. And it doesn’t look like Bioware is done with SWTOR anytime soon.

SWTOR is available only on PC.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Black Flag is the 6th Assassin’s Creed game in the series created by Ubisoft in 2013. The game itself is based during the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean.

If you didn’t already know about the game Assassin’s Creed the plot of the games is basically set in a fictional history of real world events following the age-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Templars, who want peace through control. The really cool thing about these games is that every place and event in the game are as historically correct. Apart from you running around killing Templars of course.

The story for Black Flag is that you are a newbie pirate named Edward Kenway that washes up on an island after a stormy night to find and unravel a conspiracy between high ranking Templars from the British and Spanish empires that involves getting a blood sample from everyone to control them with a device like no other. Kenway then takes the mantle of a rogue Assassin he met and obtains his ship the Jackdaw to hopefully earn a profit or end the conspiracy. Later on in the game you meet and become friends with other pirates during that time including Blackbeard, James Kidd, Charles Vane and more.

As a pirate, you don’t just need an excellent ship and crew to be the best. You also need a hideout and in Black Flag your hideout is your own Cove. After getting money, raiding, and doing what all pirates do you can then upgrade your Cove to get your own Manor, a Tavern, a harbor master and more. But don’t forget to also upgrade your ship the Jackdaw. The more you upgrade it and also customize it you can start taking down whole armadas and forts.

Black Flag is available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Switch, Wii U, and PC.

Halo 3

Halo 3 is a first person shooter game developed by Bungie in 2007.

Halo was one of the first video games that I remember. When it first came out I watched my older brothers play Halo 2 and Halo 3 and when I got older I started playing Halo 3 multiplayer with them.

If you don’t know the story of Halo yet it is basically you play as the Master Chief, a surgically enhanced super soldier, in another part of the galaxy. You fight against the alien species, the Covenant, and make sure the Halos, massive ringworlds, don’t get activated and destroy all sentient life in the galaxy.

After stopping and destroying a Halo in Halo 2 Master Chief and Abriter find out that Ark, located outside the Milky Way galaxy and serves as the construction and control station for the Halo weapon system, are creating another Halo to replace the one you previously destroyed. The Chief decides to use this Halo to eliminate the Flood infestation, but to do that you need to find and rescue Cortana, the AI that helps Chief. Good Luck.

In Halo 3 you can play by yourself or with others in the main story line or in campaign mode. When you play with your friends in the main story the characters you can choose from is the Master Chief, Abriter, N’tho ‘Sraom, and Usze ‘Taham. The other characters are ex Covenant Elites.

One of the parts of Halo’s gameplay that I loved playing was the campaign mode with my brothers where you can battle against each other in different games or events. Or you can just make your own for your friends to try out. Some of the events you can play are Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and so much more.

Halo 3 is available for the Xbox 360

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the many games in the Elder Scrolls series created by Bethesda in 2006. It is also the Elder Scroll created before the famous Skyrim and just like all the other ones before it, Oblivion is another open-world RPG game.

In the beginning of the game after choosing and designing your main character you start off in the dungeons for committing an unknown crime. You get out when Emperor Uriel Septim VII and his bodyguards have to use your cell to flee from assassin’s targeting him. After you and the group is about to get out the Emperor gets killed and before he dies he entrusts you with the Amulet of Kings, typically worn by the emperor, to take it to Jauffre, Grandmaster of the Blades.

You later find out you have to find and help the lost, and last, son of the Emperor become the new emperor. Along the way you find out that barriers to Oblivion, their version of Hell, are opening up all around Cyrodiil and you are the only one that knows how to close them.

But you know that Oblivion isn’t an Elder Scrolls game without its guilds. There is the Arena, where you can fight to be the ultimate champion. The Dark Brotherhood, where you can sharpen your sneakiness by becoming an assassin. The Mages Guild and the Fighters Guild which is pretty self-explanatory. And lastly there is the Thieves Guild were you can master the skills of a thief.

But don’t forget that Oblivion is also an open world, so you can explore all the towns, cave, hideouts, and cities of Cyrodiil for as long as you please. It’s not like the world will slowly get taken over by Oblivion in the meantime, your main character.

Oblivion is available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a game that came out in 2012 developed by Big Huge Games and 38 Studios.

Reckoning is set in one of the Kingdoms of Amalur which is the Faelands. The story, without spoiling too much, is that you are a mortal called the “Fateless One” who died in war and revived in Well of Souls. You have no memory of you life before your death and have no future that is predesigned, because you already have died. You now have control of your own destiny and have the whole Faelands to explore. The question is what are you going to do first?

You can choose between 4 playable races. There are the Almain (noble humans), Dokkalfar (Dark Elves), Ljosalfar (Light Elves), and Varani (nomadic humans).

There are also so many different unique types of weapons, more than an average RPG would provide. There are the common longswords, greatswords, longbows, daggers, and hammers. But there are even faeblades, staves, chakrams, and sceptres.

Personally I like to fight with the chakrams. Using arcing focused attacks as well as circular area-of-effect attacks, the chakrams are a mid-range weapon, good at dealing with enemies before they can get into melee range as well as disrupting multiple enemies with elemental vulnerabilities. The animations and fighting style for chakrams are very different then most weapons and so fun to fight with.

Apart from the main quest in Reckoning there are also side quests and factions the Fateless One can help. You can also unlock and upgrade player owned homes in Reckoning and there is up to 8 you can own. Can you get them all?

Reckoning is available for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.

Fable

Fable is the first game from the Fable series released in 2004 developed by Lionhead Studios. The game is an action role playing game that takes place in the nation of Albion resembling medieval times and other traditional fantasy games.

You play as an orphaned boy who becomes a trains and becomes a hero after bandits attacked his village, killing his parents, and kidnapped his sister. As a hero of Albion you take on quests from the citizens and also learn what happened to your family and why.

During the whole game the types of deeds, good or evil, you do can affect your appearance and how others think of you. Which was always fun growing up. My oldest brother and I always chose good while my other brother did evil just for the looks.

The fighting styles you can choose from are the basic swords, bows, and magic which was what most fantasy games in 2004 as fighting styles. Later in Fable 2 and 3 you can start using guns instead of bows which help shows the evolution of Albion. You also get a dog companion in the later Fable games and he will help you fight, find buried treasure, and also learn tricks.

Doing the main and side quests in Fable is just a small amount of fun you can have. Other things you can do as the hero is playing pub games, boxing tournaments, exploring, stealing, owning and renting houses, and more.

Fable is a very good game for beginner gamers and now can be played on the Xbox One, PC, and Xbox 360.

Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is just one of the many amazing Legend of Zelda games created by Nintendo.

The game starts off with Link leaving Hyrule on a personal quest to find Navi. Instead, he meets an evil imp named Skull Kid who knocks Link unconscious and takes the Ocarina of Time and Epona. When Link finally tracks Skull Kid down Skull Kid uses dark magic to turn Link into a Deku Scrub.

Deku Link then meets the Happy Mask Salesman and learns the truth about Skull Kid. After then fighting Skull Kid at the top of the clocktower for the first time the Happy Mask Salesman helps by using the Song of Healing stop the moon from destroying the world, for about 3 days and then you have to use it all over again.

Throughout the whole game, you as the player get to help the people of Clock Town as well as the Gordons, Dekus, Zoras, and the Mask Happy Salesman by undoing what evil the Skull Kid inflicted upon them.

The funniest part of the game is getting all the masks and turning into all of the different types of characters there were and getting their abilities. There is the Deku Mask, Gordon Mask, Zora Mask, and the Fierce Deity Mask just to name a few. With the masks on you can race against the Gordons with Gordon Link or swim as fast as a Zora. In total there are 24 masks spread all across the map. Can you find them all?

The only part that can freak players out is the moon that gets bigger and bigger throughout the 3 day period. Like look at it:

You just look up and hello there it is. That is just extremely terrifying. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying the game. So if you haven’t I suggest you go out and get Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to play. It is available on the GameCube, Nintendo 64, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U
