Braelon Allen is a top recruit for safety in Wisconsin. Listed as a 4-star recruit by most recruiting websites, Allen plays an integral part for the Fond du Lac Football Team. He will play for the University of Wisconsin next year.
Braelon Allen recently re-classified himself from the 2022 recruiting class to the 2021 recruiting class and will join players including Nolan Rucci, JP Benzschawel, and Hunter Wohler next year at Wisconsin. Braelon considered Ohio State and Notre Dame according to the interview with @cfbnut. He also had offers from Michigan, Michigan State, and Iowa. Allen is known for his physical play at safety and has played some time at linebacker as well. As he said in his interview with @cfbnut on Instagram, Allen thinks of himself as a pretty versatile player.
Braelon Allen has also been successful in wrestling, winning a national championship during his freshman year according to an interview with @cfbnut. He credits his success in football with his time spent in wrestling along with being able to play many positions in football, including running back and quarterback, with his success at playing safety and linebacker. Allen played a key role last in Fond du Lac’s 2018 win against Wisconsin high school football powerhouse Kimberly and ending Kimberly’s longest winning streak in the US at the time.
In my time of watching Braelon Allen, he has good vision and can get tackles in the secondary to help to avoid big plays for the other team. Allen is also very quick for how heavy of a hitter he is. These traits will serve Braelon well at Wisconsin, where the players will be bigger than those in high school and offenses will have trickier schemes that he will have to read and pick-up on.
One key thing Braelon Allen will have to decide on before he goes to the NFL is what position he is going to play. Allen will either have to put on weight and muscle to play linebacker or work on speed and technique to play safety. Braelon could potentially play both positions in the NFL, but this will be hard and is not very common, with players like Isaiah Simmons who plays for the Arizona Cardinals, being the rare exception.
It will be interesting to see how much energy Braelon Allen gives during this coming high school football season in the spring, as he will leave for the University of Wisconsin in the summer. Will Allen focus on one position to better his skills for the next level, or will he continue to play multiple positions? Whatever Braelon Allen does decide to do for this upcoming high school football season, I can not wait to see his development during his time at the University of Wisconsin!
