Outage and maintenance update

Please be aware of the following maintenance activities. 

  • Network maintenance is planned for Thursday morning, April 14, starting at 6 a.m. which may result in very brief (5-minute), select outages.  Services that may be affected include TaxWise, RoomView, ArcView GIS, FP&M TMA and JCI applications, CoBE Podcast Producer, Point and Click, Doc Imaging, Raiser’s Edge. 
  • UW-Whitewater’s Identity Management System will be making changes to coincide with UW System’s new HRS  System on April 18.  During the conversion from 6 a.m. Saturday, April 16, to 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, password changes to network accounts will not be available.  If you have questions about the HRS System, refer to the UW-Whitewater HR website for information and updates. 
  • As part of a new FP&M campus substation project, power outages will occur in White Hall on Wednesday, Apr. 13 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 14; and in Roseman Hall on Thursday, Apr. 14 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday, Apr. 15.

John Collins Joins iCIT as Desktop Support Technician

John Collins has joined UW-Whitewater iCIT as a Tier 2 Desktop Support Technician in Customer Technology Services & Support (CTSS).   His first day is Monday, Mar. 28.

John is an experienced IT professional with a background in technology service and repair, as well as  the technical arts.   He worked for the last five years for Best Buy Geek Squad-Milwaukee, where he was responsible for computer repair work including diagnostics, software and hardware installations and repair, and network troubleshooting and virus removal.  John offers diverse technical ability, and is CompTia A+, Network + and Security + certified.  In addition, he has been recognized for strong customer service and team leadership skills. 

As a Tier 2 Desktop Support Technician, John will provide advanced support to the university community and Tier 1 technicians in the use of workstation hardware, network printers, mobile devices and other campus technologies. His primary duties will include diagnosing, resolving and configuring various technologies while also helping customers to use office technology and productivity tools more effectively.  John will report to Kent Steinike.

Director of AIS Position Posted

The Director of Administrative Information Systems (AIS)  position has been posted on the UW-Whitewater Employment site, and the recruitment for this iCIT management position is underway. 

Reporting to Elena Pokot, CIO, the Director of AIS will provide leadership to the application development team; manage planning and execution of ERP-related projects, and foster project management methodology and culture on campus.   Candidates must have experience in implementing and supporting state-of-the-art ERP systems (or other large IT applications), and have proficiency in modern system integration frameworks and architectures.  An experienced person with strong knowledge of application development practices, structured programming practices and systems development lifecycle would be a good fit for this position.  The person in this position serves as a campus leader, building a strong team and guiding it in a cross-functional, collaborative environment. 

A Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of related experience, including supervising or managing technical and/or application development personnel, is required.  Project Management experience is required.  Professional experience in a higher education environment is a plus.

Ryan Wenzel accepts DBA position in AIS

Ryan Wenzel, Administrative Information Systems (AIS), has accepted the position of Database Administrator in AIS.  In his new position, Ryan will apply his broad knowledge of campus information system architecture to implement technical solutions for information system applications.  Specific responsibilities include building and maintaining Oracle 11g environments, while continuing to build and maintain Microsoft SQL 2000, 2005 and 2008 relational databases.  Ryan will work with iCIT management, consultants, administrators, and technical staff to manage database consolidation, adjustment, upgrade and maintenance projects.  

Ryan joined UW-Whitewater iCIT in 2008 as Database Administrator, AIS, focusing on Microsoft SQL Server.   Prior to that, he was Database Administrator/Application Analyst for Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI.  Ryan’s professional experiences make him highly qualified for this position.   He brings general knowledge of information systems concepts, principles and practices, as well as specific experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 RDBMS, and Oracle 11g RDBMS maintenance and administration to his new role.  Ryan will report to Elena Pokot, CIO, who is managing the AIS team while a Director of AIS is being recruited.

AV Project Coordinator Position Posted

A position for AV Project Coordinator has opened in iCIT and will be posted on the UW-Whitewater Employment site.   The AV Project Coordinator  is responsible for coordinating deployment of audio/visual and instructor control systems in classrooms and labs.  Specific responsibilities include preparing cost estimates and equipment recommendations, ordering and installing equipment, and tracking assignments through to completion, working closely with the Instructional Facilities Coordinator and in conjunction with FP&M staff.   Under the direction of the Network Operations Center Supervisor, the AV Project Coordinator also is responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of network cabling infrastructure to support audio, video and data networks on campus.  This position reports to Mary Jo deMeza, Director of Computing Environment Group.
