Welcome New ICIT Team Members!

Amy Williams is joining ICIT on Monday, Sept. 16 as the Instructional Technology Services (ITS) Training and Technical Support Specialist in the Learning Technology Center. In this role, she will be charged with supporting the advancement of the skills of university staff and support faculty and instructional staff use of campus technology. She will accomplish this through the development and delivery of training materials including videos, how-to documentation, online training materials, and workshops. She will be located in the LTC and will report to Renee Pfeifer-Luckett.

She comes from the University of Wisconsin Colleges Online in Madison where she was working as the Course Support Specialist. In that position, she was responsible for the live support and maintenance of over 90 online courses in addition to being the bookstore administrator and point-of-contact for the UWC Online textbook vendor. She also initiated, led, and supported virtual instructor training sessions about Desire2Learn and other departmental changes.

Welcome Bob Caputo to the team! Bob will join the AIS team on Monday, Sept. 23. Bob’s primary area of responsibility will be to support the WINS system. His duties include system analysis and design, system integration, system modification and troubleshooting, and advanced programming tasks. He will also be collaborating with functional users in the use of WINS applications and tools. He will be located in L 1015 and will report to Anand Vangipuram.

Bob comes to us from Department of Corrections in Madison where he worked as a Senior Developer. In this role, Bob led the technical design, implementation, and support of the BMC Control-M Scheduling software.

Do you know a qualified AV Technician?

ICIT is currently looking for an AV Technician. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the ongoing operation of classroom equipment. This position works as part of the campus laboratory/classroom technology support team and reports to the Director of Instructional Technology Services Renee Pfeifer-Luckett.

An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with current lab and classroom equipment (e.g., data projectors, sound systems, and other peripherals) and their interface to computers and networked systems.
  • Knowledge of basic electronics technology.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers about technology.
  • Ability to maintain thorough project documentation.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift at least 75 pounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively as part of a team with other technology specialists.

Personnel Announcements

Jason Schmidt has decided to resign from ICIT. He has accepted a position with Department of Workforce Development as a Network Engineer. In this role, Jason will focus on the data center and security . His last day at UW-Whitewater will be Friday, August 23rd.

Since joining ICIT in 2006, Jason has significantly expanded the wireless coverage on campus, including service expansions to cover many outdoor areas around campus. Jason was also instrumental in deploying advanced network security hardware both in the data center environment and on the campus network. Jason recently worked to expand our wireless guest network to enable UW-W to provide wireless services to large conferences including the InterActiv Conference, a meeting of over 600 regional educators that came to UW-W to learn about instructional technology and its application in the K12 classroom.

We thank Jason for his many contributions to UW-Whitewater and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors!

Erica Mendez has announced she will be leaving UW-Whitewater to join Enterprise Magazine, Inc. as an Account Representative in Milwaukee, WI.  In this role, Erica will be in charge of their social media marketing, account management, and ad sales for both of their quarterly publications. Erica’s last day at UW-Whitewater will be Friday, August 16th.

Erica officially joined the ICIT team in January, but has been a student employee since Spring 2011. She started in the Media Lab and moved into the LTC during Winterim 2012. While in the LTC she has provided D2L Support, and trained instructors on many of the instructional technologies supported by the Learning Technology Center (LTC).  Erica also produced training videos for both students and faculty.

Welcome Christa Vrabel!

Please join us in welcoming Christa Vrabel to the Web Team as our new Web Coordinator, replacing Carolyn Wilson. In this role, Christa will be responsible for developing and driving a comprehensive Web strategy that effectively aligns the web and mobile strategy to support UWW’s mission.  She will also be responsible for leading our efforts in completing our migration from Collage to Ingeniux (our new CMS). She will be located in the L1002 suite and report to Anand Vangipuram.

Christa comes to us from Orbit Media Studios, where she was working as a Web Project Manager. In that role she developed and implement digital marketing strategies for ten plus client projects a year, including maintaining a consistent brand identity, creating information architectures, structuring content and brand message, and optimizing product content. Some of her notable web site projects include: www.Viennabeef.com; www.revolutiondance.com; and www.musicboxfilms.com.

Help us find our next Workstation Management Technologist!

ICIT is looking for a new Workstation Management Technologist! Do you know someone that would be a good fit with ICIT? Do they have workstation management skills?

The candidate would be responsible for managing workstation software distribution for Windows and Mac platforms. This includes designing standard images based on the campus-wide and departmental needs, packaging, testing and distributing applications, troubleshooting issues associated with workstation software, and leading software rollouts such operating systems releases, browser releases and office productivity software. The position reports to Ray Stanek.

 Some of the ideal candidate qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT field OR four years of relevant experience
  • Four or more years experience working as a desktop/systems engineer of a large or medium sized company to include all of the following:
    • Developing, testing, implementing and maintaining imaging, packaging and deployment solution(s) preferably with Novell Zenworks
    • Managing Microsoft Windows XP (and higher) operating systems in a distributed, multi-site corporate environment is required, experience with Mac OS is preferred
    • Experience with Windows Security, including New Technology File System (NTFS), User Rights, Services, and Active Directory objects     
  • 3-5 years of Software Distribution Experience with Zenworks or SCCM is required, Casper experience is preferred     
  • Experience with the distribution of Windows and Mac workstations policies and updates
