Q: What do you do – explain how you fit into ICIT?

A: Currently I’m defining the processes we have in our Tech Purchasing area. After the processes are mapped – I will be looking at new ways we can streamline and increase efficiency. I also deal with custom computer purchases along with program integration.

Q: Something people don’t know about you?

A: I too am a pilot – just a few hours left to obtain my commercial certification. I’m also a certified personal trainer – I like to help people improve their body and their mind.

Q: Favorite hobby?

A: Aside from aviation & fitness – Another hobby of mine is being active in the stock market.

Q: What was your first job?

A: My first job was working for the City of Oconomowoc.   My first relevant job I was employed as  Technical & Customer Support for Grainger.

Q: Tell me something interesting about yourself.

A: I have three cats and one golden retriever. We take in rescues whenever we can, as of right now I think we are good on cats 🙂

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: Aviation – Fitness – Rescued Animals – Warm Weather + Beaches

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

A: A nice cold beer.

Q: Favorite TV Show?

A: Favorite Show would have to be Seinfeld – other than that I pretty much watch sports if I watch TV at all.

Q: Music genre?

A: I am a big fan of country and 80’s hair bands

Q: Do you have a famous look-a-like?

A: I’ve been told that I look like the cop from Terminator 2. I’ve also got Ty Murray a professional bull rider married to Jewel.

Q: Favorite vacation?

A: The Keys – Key West is great for night-life and action. Also a big fan of Key Largo.

A: Love Chinese food. Buffalo wings are also a favorite food of mine – Anchor Inn in Newville has some good ones around here!

Q: Least favorite food?

A: Black licorice or anything that resembles the flavor.

Q: Biggest fear?

A: This Wisconsin winter – a cold, overcast, never-ending winter.

Q: One place you must visit at least once?

A: OK two places – Hawaii and Fiji. One trip could knock both out at once!

Q: What do you do – explain how you fit into ICIT

A: I am the A/V Technician-I work alongside Peter maintaining, installing and troubleshooting most of the A/V equipment around campus.  I’m learning more and more each day!

Q: Something people don’t know about you

A: A few people I work with know this but not all. I am a Commercial Pilot, licensed by the FAA to fly for compensation, anyone need to fly somewhere?!?!?!

Q: Favorite hobby?

A: Building things…things out of wood, things out of metal, ya know, things!

Q: What was your first job?

A: Wal-Mart…I was hired as a cashier, worked in receiving and Lawn and Garden and finally, after three years of employment, got promoted to cart pusher.

Q: What’s your favorite piece of technology?

A: My new 39” LED TV from wOOt.com as a Christmas present to myself, I know it’s not huge but after watching a 20” Sanyo for ten years it’s definitely an upgrade.

Q: Tell me something interesting about yourself.

A: Outside of UWW I am also a paid on call Firefighter/EMT for the Wales-Genesee Fire Department.  The picture is of me coming down after ventilating the roof of a house fire in Waukesha.

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: I’m very passionate about flying.  Keeping the shiny side up is my top priority.

Q: Do you have a special talent?

A: My father has passed on his knowledge of fixing things to me.  Be it a car, motorcycle or a washing machine, give me a screwdriver and a big hammer and I’ll either fix it or really break it.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

A: Listening to my ex-wife Carrie Underwood’s CD’s.

Q: Favorite TV Show?

A: Lately it has been ‘Dangerous Flights’ on the Smithsonian Channel.

Q: Music genre?

A: I always love rock music spanning from the 70’s to today, although recently my tastes have gone to the Country side of the spectrum.

Q: Do you have a famous look-a-like?

A: I’ve been told I look like Doug Savant from ‘Desperate Housewives’.

Q: What is your theme song?

Q: Favorite vacation?

A: My favorite vacation ever was the camping trip my girlfriend Melissa and I went on last Memorial Day weekend.  The campground was on an island on the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage near Mercer, WI.  The only access was by boat.  The first night the weather was gorgeous until after dinner when the rain moved in, the next day fog and rain.  Everything was soaked, we couldn’t get the fire going and the wind was howling.  We were miserable but that was the most memorable camping trip ever!

Q: Favorite food?

A: Anything dealing with a grill is my favorite food.

Q: Least favorite food?

A: Anything with Avocados, Guacamole looks and smells delicious but I just can’t do it.

Q: Biggest fear?

A: Heights, I can fly an airplane at 25,000 feet but I get nervous looking down a building at 50 feet.

Q: One place you must visit at least once?

A: I HAVE to see Australia, it’s time to go to the Southern Hemisphere.

Welcome back Mike Olson!

Please welcome back Mike Olson to the ICIT Team! Mike rejoins the AIS team. He will be enhancing PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, with particular focus on mobile apps. Mike will also take on some AIS Team Lead responsibilities, helping mentor new team members. Mike is located in the L1015 and reports to Anand Vangipuram.

While at UW-Madison, he supported the expenses, accounts payable, and purchasing modules. Prior to that role Mike worked in ICIT as Senior Programmer/Analyst. During his tenure at UWW, Mike designed and developed the IDM/WINS integration with the HRS System. Additionally, he also deployed the first ever WINS mobile application.

Welcome Kevin Behringer!

Welcome Kevin Behringer to the web team as our new Web Content Specialist! In this role Kevin will be responsible for creating and developing content & imagery for UWW websites, ensuring a consistent university brand identity and message is maintained. He will enable clients by training them on web content best practices. He will be located in the L1002 suite and will report to Anand Vangipuram.

Kevin comes to us from Bethesda Lutheran Communities, where he was working as the Website and Social Media Manager. In that role he managed corporate web presence including corporate website and social media properties. His responsibilities included content creation, solicitation, curation and management, strategic planning and web analytics. In addition, Kevin has 10 years of marketing experience. He has worked as a Marketing Coordinator both at Markel American Insurance Company and Environmental Management Consulting, Inc.

Help us find a Technology Training and Advancement Advocate!

ICIT is seeking an experienced Technology Training and Advancement Advocate. The Technology Training and Advancement Advocate will support university staff in the advancement of their technology skills. This position will coordinate the development and delivery of training solutions improving understanding and productivity. This role focuses on teaching specific methods related to departmental business processes. This person will be a key member in the on-going identification and adoption of new technology on campus.

Ideal candidates would be comfortable developing and delivering technology training, evaluating new software for university relevancy, and promoting technology proficiency.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Four-year degree in a related field
  • Experience within the university environment
  • Experience developing end-user technical documents
  • Proficient in Windows/MAC OS + Applications
  • Communicate concepts and teachings effectively
