As I am at my fourth and final year here at UW-Whitewater I will share five of the top things that I’ve learned throughout my college career:

  1. Time Management: College has helped me learn how to manage my time wisely. Whether it’s having 3 exams in a week, finding the time to study, and doing good on all of them. Or it’s having a week where I have to work 4 events and manage my time to get all of my school work done. It definitely took a little adjusting after high school but I know it has prepared me to manage my time at my future job after graduation.Dorm
  2. Being Independent: I remember freshman move in day perfectly – being in a new city, at a new school, and living with a random roommate in a dorm – to say I was nervous is an understatement. But moving away from home and going to school I learned how to be independent whether it’s something as simple as going to the store by myself and purchasing my own groceries or cooking and cleaning for myself.
  3. Networking: During college I learned how to network with professionals and my peers. I learned this through joining student organizations, going to conferences through my job here at the UC, and simply being involved and going to events like the career fair on campus. Whitewater has endless resources and activities so as a piece of advice I would say get involved and talk to people!!
  4. Managing Money: Everyone knows that college is expensive…and throughout my college days I’ve learned really how to budget and even the value of my money. Even something as simple as only going out to eat once a week or putting a certain dollar amount on my purple points each semester to spend has helped me.
  5. Enjoy College!!!: One thing I do know is that although us college students are extremely busy all of the time – sometimes we need to a breather and a step back to enjoy ourselves. Trust me the 4 years go by extremely fast….so remember not to just focus on the books all of the time but enjoy your time here at UW-Whitewater!
