People just think that golf is the rich man’s sport and is not very interesting. This is where you are entitled to your opinion about it. Golf can be a very dramatic sport in who is in the playoffs for that match or seeing some amazing shots being taken.
Jon Rahm vs. Dustin Johnson
Back in the last weekend of August, during the BMW Championship, there was an epic putt made by Dustin Johnson to force a playoff round against Jon Rahm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnZk649VUFg Even though Dustin wasn’t that far from the hole, he still made an incredible putt because, let’s face it, if you have ever golfed before, you know putting is the hardest/worst thing to do.
Jon Rahm also had a little flair for the dramatic in that during their playoff round. He managed to sink a 66-foot putt. I still can’t comprehend how that happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ3Z94zeuYo This is another one of those moments that you realize that you are never going to be as good as these people when it comes to this sport. I keep thinking that there is a chance and then I realize I’m not an athlete so I will spend my life telling these amazing stories.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVTfWFb4l7w This is a video highlighting everything that leads up to those moments as well as the moments that made that tournament. Breaking it down, it just shows that there is so much intensity that goes on during these golf tournaments as well as seeing in a way that the pandemic has changed things-no spectators.
Charity Relief
With how much these players compete during the year, wither it being at a big event like the U.S. OPEN or The MASTERS, it is still nice to see that some of these golfers will get together and do something for charity. In the beginning of May, there was a fundraiser being held where two teams of two golfers competing for different charities. On one team you had Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolfe and the other was composed of Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson. Events like this I think are important for a pandemic because it shows that these guys still want to play but they are helping out a good cause. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeOgnQfzfxk This video had some of the best mic’d up moments from this event. Still in the midst of a pandemic they know how to have fun.
At the end of the day, these guys are out here to have fun. They know that they have a responsibility in that they need to be the best golfer but at the same time they should just go out there and have fun because what this sport is about. With all of the challenges that the world is facing right now, it shows that there is a lot out there that can brighten up someone’s day.
Hello Kim! I agree that golf can be really entertaining to watch! My Dad is big into both watching and playing golf and every weekend is watching that week’s golf tournament. One thing I like about not having fans now is that you can hear the different styles of play golfers have. Some golfers don’t talk much while on the course and others talk all the time to their caddies and partners. It will be interesting if they continue to mic up the players after the pandemic is over.
