Organizing Your Home/Room

Keeping an organized house or bedroom can be difficult at times, especially with multiple people using the same space. As college students, most of us live with at least one other person, and it can get very messy or unorganized at times. Here are some ways to help your space stay clean!

  1. Use it and put it away
    • After using something, get in the habit of putting it away/ cleaning it up. It will prevent things from getting cluttered, piled up, or lost. If you are going to have to clean it up or put it away eventually, why not just do it right away to benefit yourself? Once you get into this habit, you will start to see your spaces become cleaner and more organized.
  2. Start in one spot
    • Begin cleaning in one spot of your house or room and work your way around that space. If you start in one spot and jump around to other areas without finishing the first spot, it could work against you and make it more difficult to organize. Clean up one spot at a time and take breaks if needed. It does not all have to be done at once, especially if you are cleaning a big area with a huge mess.
  3. Create piles
    • Put different items into categories so that they are easier to put away. This is a quicker and more efficient way of cleaning/organizing. If everything is in a category, then all that is left is putting it back where it belongs.

    Hi Britney!

I LOVE this post. It’s so aesthetically pleasing! But I also love the tips you listed. If my house is organized and clean, I am SO much more productive. One tip that I definitely need to work on is “use it and put it away.” I am very guilty of trying on about fifty different outfits and just throwing my clothes on the floor. My room would be significantly cleaner if I would just put my clothes, I don’t wear, back in my closet.

    Thanks for sharing!
