Getting to Know: Mystery Bags
Another great product that TCM has available in store, are mystery bags. Mystery bags are bags sealed with two candles inside. They are $24; therefore, it is two candles for the price of one! While you can grab any bag you choose, you do not know what scents are in the bag until you purchase and open it. I can give you an insider’s secret, though. In these bags are all good scents and well-made candles, they are just typically our off-season scents, as mentioned in last week’s blog. Therefore, in some of our bags currently would be a lot of winter scents, or some discontinued scents. These are a…

Getting to Know: Scent Rotation
Every season at The Candle Mercantile, a lot of the scents are switched in and out. So, if you come during the summer, you should come back during the fall to check out all of the new scents! There are a few classic scents that due to popularity stay out all year long, but there are also a wide variety that are swapped depending on the time of year. For example, a lot of floral and fruit scents are out currently for the spring and summer, where in the fall and winter those are tucked away. In the colder months, scents such as pumpkin souffle, mulled cider, autumn leaves, peppermint…

Getting to Know: Online Store
What would a business be if you could not have the ability to order online these days? TCM learned this quickly once the pandemic hit that they needed to have a website up and running in order to stay in business. TCM works with Shopify in running their online store. When the pandemic struck, they were quick in uploading products for sale, and being able to ship them out to customers. Al of our products sold online, are still hand poured in the store. You can order any of our products, from premade candles, to customized sprays or candles. If you want to place a custom order online, you simply…

Getting to Know: Reservations
As mentioned in last week blog, reservations have become a key part of how TCM runs their business. Ensuring that they will have space at the bar to accommodate you when you wish to come in can be incredibly important, especially on a weekend. On Saturdays, TCM typically has a full bar, with limited space for walk-ins. Therefore, reservations are crucial if you want to come in and pour. During the weekdays, things are a little slower. Depending on the day, there is space for people to simply walk in and have space at the bar to pour. The process of making reservations is quite easy! Simply start by calling…

Getting to Know: How COVID Hit
COVID threw a twist into everyone’s lives. The nation-wide lockdown required a lot of small businesses to close their doors for a couple of months, and for some, permanently. The Candle Mercantile had to shut down their store, along with many others at the middle of March until the end of May. With TCM having just opened in June of 2019, so just a short eight months later, they were not prepared to close down. During this time, the owners actually had to lay off all of their employees, but were fortunate enough to hire them all back on when doors reopened. Pre COVID times at TCM were different than…

Getting to Know: The Owners
Let’s take this week to get to know the amazing owners and creators of The Candle Mercantile: Liz Doyle and Leigh Ann Myers. These two are the co-owners of TCM, and are childhood best friends. They both left their stressful corporate America jobs to create a fun, new experience for Downtown Lake Geneva. They toyed around with a couple of different business ideas for a while, until they decided on candle pouring. Leigh Ann visited a similar concept store in Pittsburgh, and they loved the idea for Lake Geneva. I have loved nothing more than working for these two amazing women, who have not only opened a wonderful small…

They offer a wide variety of other products to fit any scented need that one may have! For wax products, TCM offers candles and wax melts, but not everyone may have time to wait the hour and a half for their product to be done. In this case we, as employees, recommend for customers to take a look at the product wall of all of the different options they can choose from. By taking a peek at the product wall, customers will find that there are four other product choices…
