Social Media Detox

For the past few months I have found that most of my free time/down time has been consumed by the famously distracting, the one and only, that’s right, you guessed it… the app called Tiktok. I didn’t realize how much of my time was wasted on social media until I checked my average daily screen time usage. I honestly could be getting so much more done with homework and job hunting during the time I am watching Tiktoks, which is sad. Its not like I never turn things in on time, or that I have bad grades, the main issue is my homework and progress on other daily tasks I could be doing first are pushed back because my procrastination takes over by watching funny videos instead.

So because I am challenging myself to be productive, and bettering oneself and learning about my interests and characteristics as a person in this blog. I decided this week I would be taking a day to detox from tiktok and instagram since those are the main sources of distraction. (also because I have a huge book report and presentation that’s due Friday…send help…) This way it will help me gauge just how badly Tiktok is taking over my self improvement time.

I decided to fully understand how badly my daily usage average was I need to look at my screen time count on my phone before the experiment of cutting Tiktok and Instagram out for the day. I’m kind of embarrassed.. my daily average is 6 hours and 11 minutes.

I do have to take into consideration I use my phone for music to and from my job, during work outs at the gym, and also during work for helping guests. However, I think that only covers half of my time being used.

I challenge you to look at your screen time too and comment below what your daily average is for being on your phone! I’m embarrassed with how much I am on my phone so if your embarrassed, join the party! I think a good way to look at it is, now you can be more mindful when you pick up your phone.

I will be posting my updated screen time after I detox so check back by Tuesday to see how much it changed! Wish me luck because my book report is counting on it!

I avoided downloading TikTok for this exact reason, I knew that I was already spending too much time on other social media sites, that I couldn’t possibly need another one to spend my time on. My average daily screentime is 3 hours and 27 minutes. Definitly not pretty, but it’s good to know it’s something we can work on! Thanks for sharing!

My screen time on tik tok alone on Wednesday was 3hours and 52 mins! During my detox day it was only 11 mins! I had a few people send me videos on there and I didn’t want them to think I was ignoring their message. But I would sya that is really good compared to the amount of tiktoks I was watching before!!

My screen time, especially since quaratntine and downloading tik tok, has been at an all time high. It’s always scary to get the “your screen time this week” report on Sundays!
