Album of the Week 5/9/14

May 10, 2014

Lykke LiStarting this week the new album, I Never Learn by Lykke Li.  This is the Swedish artist’s third studio album which was released for air play earlier this week.  The album is the final in a trilogy of albums, it is the most pop like of the three. I never learn also different with songs that stand out from the progression of the three giving it a new and fresh vibe.  The single, “No Rest for the Wicked,”  The album is fulls of the flowing vocals and music that continues on from her prior albums.  The album has been highly rated by critics who believe that the album is a redefinition of pop music.  Lykke Li sure has put out an album to relax to on a warm summer day.

Album of the week 5/2/14

May 2, 2014

Foster_the_People_-_SupermodelSpinning right now as our current No.4 is the second studio album by Foster the People.  Their album, Supermodel brings everything that was there for their debut album Torches (2011), yet it goes even further.  Listeners will find the same neo-psychedelic pop vibes that could be heard in hit “Pumped Up Kicks,” but also hear a fresh new revamped sound.  Their album also happens to be a concept album where they attempt to tackle ideas about consumerism, pop culture and social issues.  The album focuses on how we as Americans are forced to compare ourselves to the “Supermodels.”  They challenge the listener to stop presenting themselves in a way that is fake which takes from the vibrancy of their unique and individual lives.  Tracks to focus on that are in rotation here at 91.7 The Edge are “Best Friend,” “Coming of Age,” and “Pseudologia Fantastica.”

Final Night of Fund Drive 2014

April 28, 2014

The final night of 2014 Fund Drive began around 11pm on Saturday night.  Animals in Human Attire from Milwaukee, WI took the stage and began an energy filled, electrifying, set. Animals in Human Attire (AIHA) had six players on the small stage in the Pub last weekend, but still manages to have a great time moving around.  It was not uncommon for members to be playing in the crowd throughout their time.  Memorable moments include when Bass player, Myles Coyne began to play on the bar tables at the Pub.  The whole band was fun and down to earth.  Hopefully the Indie rock band will (or their other collective bands) be coming up in September to jam out with us again! Overall they were a thrilling way to kick start the night.

Calliope pronounced  (CALL-EYE-OH-PEE), a revival rock group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin as well,  began playing around midnight and the Pub soon after became packed.  At one point there was even a line to get into the Pub.    They are a four piece band that played a dynamic set of music.  Their music kept the crowd eager to hear more of their songs.  Animals in Human Attire’s members could be found right next to the stage supporting their fellow musicians.  Like AIHA, their vibrancy played off those in the crowd and a good time was had by all.  Between the two bands, the night was filled of music and fun.

The station staff for all the hours put in. And last but not least, those of you who went out to Fund Drive! There will be more fun stuff coming in the fall. Thanks again and Stay Tuned!
