Sometimes as college students, we don’t take into account all of our different resources and things we have offered to us. These things can range from shopping coupons, to mental health counseling, to academic tutors. Here are list of different things that can help you get by while you are a full-time student:
- Student discounts: almost all, if not many, retailers have student discounts. All you need to do is ask if they have a student discount and show your student ID. This can qualify for streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu as well.
- Counseling resources: As I mentioned in my Mental Health blog post, most college campuses offer their own FREE counseling services for Mental Health. Most campuses have their own FREE health centers as well, staffed with healthcare professionals.
- Free meals provided from some local businesses: some local restaurants have a student discount, or student meal deal.
- Grants & Scholarships: Apply for scholarships, you never know what you are eligible for until you look! Also, some states (like Wisconsin) offer a higher education relief grant once or twice a year.
- Technology perks: If you are a student, computer companies like Dell and Microsoft often cut costs for college students. Some phone providers such as Verizon and AT&T give you monthly discounts on your payments.
I feel like a lot of people underestimate all that college students have to worry about. There is so much more than just academic worries, there are financial and health worries as well. Most college students are also just learning how to be on their own as well too, which is stressful. Being aware of all resources available to you could be very useful to your benefit with your struggles through college.
This was a perfect blog for me as someone who honestly forgets to take advantage of being a college student. I NEVER ask if places provide a student discount when I really should. Especially when I’m in/near a college town. Might as well take advantage of some while I’m still in college!
These resources are very useful and I have been able to use some of these tips to my advantage. When I bought my laptop, I was able to get it discounted for 15% off since I was a college student which can save a lot of money considering the price of a laptop. I will use this as a way to download other streaming services such as Spotify due to the price drop off for college students. Having services based around Mental Health is crucial for college students as they are experiencing a lot of pressure and anxiety during their times in college and it’s important to have the necessary resources to overcome those obstacles.
I think this was an informational post to let students know the potential offers they are missing out on. I feel like I often overlook these deals and discounts since I don’t know where to find a list of all of the places that offer these perks. I do appreciate when companies do this since I have Amazon Prime for students as well as the Hulu, Spotify, and Showtime bundle that is offered at an extremely discounted rate for college students. These are platforms that I shop from or enjoy as entertainment quite often so I am really glad companies recognize college students and reward them.
“I feel like a lot of people underestimate all that college students have to worry about.”
This is definitely something that people don’t realize. While college isn’t necessary for everyone and I often times wonder if it was worth it for myself, people don’t realize all of the work we have to put in at college. Imagine trying to hold a full-time job, study, be involved in an organization, stay active and healthy, and have an actual social life, all the while having to search for employment when you’re about to graduate. I have been capitalizing on the student discounts though for sure!
Good post!
I love this post and how you are providing helpful information and tips for college students to take full advantage of the benefits offered to us. I think it can be so easy for us to get wrapped up in all the stress and loads of stuff on our plates every week that we can forget about all the resources that are there to make it easier. I personally love student discounts, I look for them on almost anything I am buying. Some of my favorites are student amazon prime, Spotify, and clothing store discounts, you’d be surprised how many stores offer a 10 or 15% student discount!
I appreciate this post a LOT! I think that I get wrapped up in all of my school work and jobs that I tend to overlook all of the little things. I will totally be keeping this list of things as some things to look into for the future. I could benefit greatly from this list and loved this post!
