How To Coordinate The Day And Not Go Crazy

Keeping sane on the busiest day of your life and actually enjoying it

So many details of a wedding don’t play out until the day has arrived. It can be a lot to manage when all you want to do is relax and enjoy the day. Sometimes there are a million people asking you questions, or there is an emergency that has to be dealt with, or a vendor who needs directions. On that day you shouldn’t have to deal with any of that. Here are a few ways you’ll be able to do just that.

Tip #1- Have A Day Of Coordinator

Having a day of coordinator takes so much pressure off the bride, groom, and their families. They can be the point of contact for all vendors and for anyone else that might have questions. They keep you on your timeline and know exactly what you want your day to look like so they can deal with any situations that arise. This also doesn’t have to be a professional. While I would recommend it, this can easily be a friend or family member. Give them a list of what they need to do, vendors and what they’ll be bringing, emergency contacts, and a timeline. You won’t regret this.

Tip #2- Designate A Coffee Boy

Coffee boy, food deliver woman, or angel of desserts. Ask someone to either pick up or make food for while you all get ready. You can give them money so they don’t have to pay for it. However, not having to think of meals or drinks that day helps so much. Plus you don’t want to go the whole day without eating before you walk down the isle. That’s why people pass out at the alter people.

Tip #3- Have Timeline For The Reception

People often have a timeline for the big events: ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dance. Having a timeline for the reception keeps the night flowing. Knowing when speeches start, the cake should be cut, and dancing begins, keeps you from having to keep the night going. If you’re enjoying the night don’t push it, but you also don’t want special events to be left to the last minute.

Tip #4- Give Yourself Extra Time To Get Ready

No matter how much time you set aside, you will be rushing to get everything done in time. I always told my brides to schedule two half hour segments of nothing time. That way if they needed it, they knew they could use it. If nothing else, they used that time to be present with their friends and family.

Tip #5- Give People Tasks

Whether you can get into your venue the day before your wedding or you have to wait till the day of, there will be some kind of decorating or other tasks that need to happen. If you know there are things you won’t have time to do, make a list and recruit people to help. Have Uncle Bob assemble the arch or cousin Sue light the candles. If you’re anything like me you’ll want to do everything yourself but that’s not humanly possible. Accept that the day wont be perfect, but you can still enjoy it.
