TSC Helpdesk Management Transition

TSC Helpdesk Manager Mark Wozny’s last day at UW-Whitewater iCIT will be Monday, May 16.  We thank Mark for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.  

As announced at the Spring iCIT Divisional Meeting,  Adam Hufnagel will assume responsibility for Helpdesk Management in addition to his duties in Total Desktop Care and Technology Purchasing.  Adam will continue to report to Kent Steinike.  His new responsibilities will begin on Tuesday, May 17.

Mary Jo deMeza Announces Retirement

Mary Jo deMeza, Director, Computing Environment Group, has announced her retirement from iCIT, concluding a 24-year career in UW-Whitewater informational technology services.   Her last day will be Thursday, June 30, 2011.

Mary Jo began her career at the UW-Whitewater in May 1987 as a member of the faculty research support team in the Computer Center.  In 1994, she took a new position as Lab Coordinator, and in 1996, with the opening of the Andersen Computer Lab, was promoted to Manager of Academic Labs.  In this role, Mary Jo oversaw the growth and expansion of computer lab services for students.  Through her leadership, UW-Whitewater Computer Labs kept progressive pace with organizational change and technology advancements.

Since 2002, Mary Jo has held a number of key leadership positions in iCIT during a time of rapid growth and expansion, serving as Director of Networking, Desktop Support & Training Services (NDTS), Director of Office Technology & Enterprise Communication (OTEC), and Director of Computing Environment Group (CEG), the position she currently holds.  In this role, she is responsible for providing appropriate end-user technology tools for campus,  technology skills advancement and training,  computer acquisition and workstation management, and management oversight to the web team.

“Through her years of service, Mary Jo has made vast contributions to the development of iCIT and to the campus computing environment as it exists today.  Her expertise, leadership and deep knowledge of the campus and its computing environment have helped build a residing legacy at UW-Whitewater. She will be sincerely missed by many friends and colleagues,” said Elena Pokot, CIO.

Personnel Announcement: Mark Wozny

The term of the TSC Helpdesk Manager project position will end in June, and Mark Wozny, who currently serves in this position, will be leaving iCIT to pursue other opportunities.  Under Mark’s leadership, the TSC Helpdesk was able to complete several of the goals and objectives set out for modernization and process improvement, and we are appreciative of his contributions over the last year.  

To assure that service is uninterrupted and responsibilities of the position are maintained,  iCIT management is developing a coverage plan and transition timeline.  We will share it with you once the details are worked out.

Outage and maintenance update

Please be aware of the following maintenance activities. 

  • Network maintenance is planned for Thursday morning, April 14, starting at 6 a.m. which may result in very brief (5-minute), select outages.  Services that may be affected include TaxWise, RoomView, ArcView GIS, FP&M TMA and JCI applications, CoBE Podcast Producer, Point and Click, Doc Imaging, Raiser’s Edge. 
  • UW-Whitewater’s Identity Management System will be making changes to coincide with UW System’s new HRS  System on April 18.  During the conversion from 6 a.m. Saturday, April 16, to 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, password changes to network accounts will not be available.  If you have questions about the HRS System, refer to the UW-Whitewater HR website for information and updates. 
  • As part of a new FP&M campus substation project, power outages will occur in White Hall on Wednesday, Apr. 13 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 14; and in Roseman Hall on Thursday, Apr. 14 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday, Apr. 15.

John Collins Joins iCIT as Desktop Support Technician

John Collins has joined UW-Whitewater iCIT as a Tier 2 Desktop Support Technician in Customer Technology Services & Support (CTSS).   His first day is Monday, Mar. 28.

John is an experienced IT professional with a background in technology service and repair, as well as  the technical arts.   He worked for the last five years for Best Buy Geek Squad-Milwaukee, where he was responsible for computer repair work including diagnostics, software and hardware installations and repair, and network troubleshooting and virus removal.  John offers diverse technical ability, and is CompTia A+, Network + and Security + certified.  In addition, he has been recognized for strong customer service and team leadership skills. 

As a Tier 2 Desktop Support Technician, John will provide advanced support to the university community and Tier 1 technicians in the use of workstation hardware, network printers, mobile devices and other campus technologies. His primary duties will include diagnosing, resolving and configuring various technologies while also helping customers to use office technology and productivity tools more effectively.  John will report to Kent Steinike.
