On Monday. May 27th, we will observe Memorial Day. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time. The Whitewater Banner describes Whitewater’s observance on May 27 (parade starting at 10:30 am from the First Citizens Bank parking lot downtown and ending at the American Legion building).
You can learn more about it from the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, including Memorial Day history. Did you know that it started with local observances decorating graves of the Civil War dead with flowers? Spring, after all, is a good time for flowers to be in bloom.

Chapters of the book, History of Memorial Day (2002), are available to UWW students and staff via the America: History and Life database.
