Women’s History Month Film Festival

The Women’s Resource Center and the Women’s Issues Committee have teamed up to bring Women’s History Month alive with their annual film festival. It is being held on Wednesdays in March at 7 PM in the UC Summers Auditorium. Next week’s film (on 18 March), Girl Inside features the touching story of a person’s transition from male to female and the emotional and physical journey that she faces.

FYI – tonight’s film is Desire, a documentary that tells the story of young women in New Orleans.

Both films are part of the Women Make Movies project.

Chicago will be playing host to the National LGBTI Health Summitt from 14-18 August 2009. The conference addresses all aspects of wellness (emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological, environmental, social, and/or sexual health) of the LGBTI community and centers around the theme of Health Through the Life Course.

The conference organizers are currently accepting workshop proposals through 31 March 2009.

If you would rather just attend the conference, registration information is also available. The early-bird rate of $175 is good through 31 March 2009.

UW System LGBT Conference

The UW System’s Fourth Annual LGBT Conference, in conjunction with the Women’s Studies Conference, will be held 3-4 April 2009 at the Pyle Center on the UW-Madison campus. Registration for the conference is open and special ‘early-bird’ rates are good through 13 March.

This year’s theme is Intersections of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality – the conference program has all the details of the sessions and topics.

The conference also serves as the reception for the annual PB Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ People, which will take place on Saturday evening.

As an attendee the past two years, I think that it’s a great venue to learn about LGBT issues and network with other UW System professionals.

Task Force of Leaders

How many people can say that they have worked with the top student judicial affairs officer in the country AND three of this year’s recipients of the Women in Leadership Awards, all on the same committee?

I can.

Read the press releases about Mary Beth Mackin’s prestigious honor and the Women in Leadership Awards, in which Amy Edmonds, Sonya Gladney and Kathy Mather were recognized for their campus contributions.
