Got a few newsworthy items that were shared with the task force over the last few days:
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has issued a ruling that gender-identity discrimination is covered by Title VII. This represents a “sea change” that opens the doors to employment protection for transgender Americans.
- Speaking of discrimination, there’s a new study out that has found that genderqueer people face unique patterns of abuse and discrimination. The study, published in the LGBTQ Policy Journal at the Harvard Kennedy School, pulls from data from the National Transgender Discrimination Survey from National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and National Center for Transgender Equality. Both the original report and the current study are available for download from the previous link.
- And lastly, moving onto being more open, recognizing discrimination, and promoting diversity and equality, UW-Madison’s Continuing Education is hosting Honoring Our Common Differences: Creating Inclusive Organizations, facilitated by Kathy Germann. The website has the full description and registration information, including costs.
