August 2011 Meeting

We met last Wednesday (10 August) – here are the highlights:

  • Kim met with the Chancellor for the annual report of what we’ve been doing, and he gave us positive reviews!
  • Chris has been hard at work at getting the Safe Zone listing up to date, as well as contacting certified individuals about their interest in the public listing that will go on the website.
  • Kyle presented the group with the list of LGBT books and movies that have been purchased with the funding provided by the Library’s director. Many of the titles are currently available [the New Book Island is really ‘LGBT’ right now!]. Check out the list for yourself!

July 2011 Meeting

The task force was scheduled to meet last Wednesday for our monthly meeting, but for some reason people think that they can take vacation during the summer. Because of this, the meeting was canceled. We’re still on for our August meeting!

Michael Irvin: Ally Athlete

Sometimes allies sprout up in the most interesting places. The sports world is not exactly known for welcoming LGBT athletes with open arms, given how many professionals end up coming out of the closet AFTER they’re done with their careers in the arena. However, an interesting person has come forth in support of the LGBT community. Michael Irvin, one of the greatest football players of all time, graced the cover of Out Magazine, stepping forward as an ally. The article is worth reading, as Irvin’s personality shines through in his commentary of the state of affairs.
