December 2016 Meeting

The LGBT* Committee met for the final time this semester on, Thursday, December 8, 2016. Here is some of what was discussed:

  • World AIDS Day was a huge success! Ran out of tests, but looking into having them visit monthly
  • Safe Zone Training the Trainer Applications – 11 receive so far, hoping for more in the coming weeks
  • Update on Preferred Name Option – will be available for Fall 2017
  • Campus Pride Index – planned for Spring 2017 semester

November 2016 Meeting

The LGBT* Committee came together for another meeting today, Thursday, November 10, 2016. Here is some of what was discussed:

  • Discussed election outcome effects on LGBT* and other communities on campus
  • World AIDS Day – Free HIV Testing – November 30, 11:00am-3:300pm in Warhawk Connection Center
  • Holidays Party – hosted by IMPACT and Pride Center – December 13
  • Watch for Safe Zone Training the Trainer Applications

October 2016 Meeting

After a brief hiatus while a the search for a new LGBT* Coordinator took place, the LGBT* Committee held its first meeting today, Thursday, October 13, 2016. Here is some of what was discussed:

  • Welcome to Stephanie Selvick! The new LGBT* Coordinator for our campus!
  • Discussed ongoing progress with the Preferred Name Option – implement program goal by Fall 2017
  • Committee discussed Safe Zone Trainings
  • Andrea Gibson Spoken Word Performance – Tuesday, October 25 from 7:30-8:30pm, UC Down Under

June is LGBT* Book Month!

Did you know that June is a month dedicated to highlighting books and authors of the LGBT* community?

The American Library Association celebrates authors and literature throughout the month of June that reflect the lives and experiences of the LGBT* community. Check out their website: GLBT Book Month.

Check out the award links for selected winners. The Rainbow List features LGBT* books written for kids and teens. The Over the Rainbow List highlights LGBT* books featured for adult readers.

UW-Whitewater Andersen Library has Rent Girl by Michelle Tea, and you can request No House To Call My Home by Ryan Berg from another UW Library by using the Get It option to have the book sent to you for free.

There are many more LGBT* books waiting for you to discover them! The Andersen Library’s Catalog Search provides you access to all the LGBT* books (you can search by title, by author, or by subject) for research and leisure reading today!
