Man on the Run
Green Bay, Wis. – A man in Green Bay had fled to the country of Laos after committing sexual assault has been caught and sentenced.
Jimmy Choumemany, 29, has been sentenced to serve 15 years in prison after appearing in Brown County court. He has been charged with 1st Degree Sexual Assault and Use of a Dangerous weapon.
In addition to the 15 years he will serve in prison, Choumemany will also be serving 15 years of extended supervision after his release.
The crime happened on July 22, 2018 when Choumemany approached a woman in a downtown Green Bay alley. He had knocked her over, sexually assaulted her and then fled. The victim had no knowledge of who Choumemany was before the assault.
There were cameras in the area that had captured a man on a bicycle. The images were posted by the police on various social media sites and sometime after, relatives had identified the man as Jimmy Choumemany.
However, by the time police had figured this out, Choumemany was out of the U.S.
The feds had reached out to their various contacts throughout Southeast Asia and were able to catch Choumemany.
