Clintonville, Wis. – A high school in Clintonville has found itself without a homecoming celebration this school year after a video went viral on social media.

Activities were going on as they usually would for a homecoming celebration until a group of four students seemed to take a dance just a bit too far. A video posted on a social media site showed the four non-Native students performing a mock of a traditional Native American dance during the homecoming “dance-off”.

It only took about a day for the posted video to go viral and receive a lot of criticism from surrounding areas.

Clintonville is located in an area of Wisconsin that houses a lot of Native American communities. Also, according to data from the state Department of Public Instruction, of the 1,300 students in the district just over one percent of those students are Native American.

Clintonville’s Public School District’s superintendent proceeded to cancel the school’s upcoming homecoming celebrations in hopes to strengthen the diversity education within the student body.

Local police have been working diligently to keep the peace within the surrounding areas. They are aware of possible protests that may arise in the city and they have also been monitoring various social media sites to ensure that there are no threatening comments posted.

There has been no word on possible consequences for the four students who performed the dance.
