Universal Design for Learning: Intro to the Basics
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-backed educational framework that has been integrated in classrooms in the US and abroad for over 30 years. UDL promotes learner agency and flexibility in how learners access and engage with course materials. In this workshop, we will go into further detail about what UDL is, discuss the three principles (Engagement, Representation, Action and Expression), and how instructors can incorporate UDL in their classrooms starting with a ‘plus one’ approach.
By attending the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe Universal Design for Learning
- Locate UDL Guidelines on CAST’s website
- Identify ways to apply UDL in their course
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets.
