Switched over?

I turned on my TV this morning to find only one channel still working, Milwaukee Public Television-ch. 10, but it had a huge banner running across it saying that as of 9 AM today (June 12, 2009) the signal would be disconnected.  I knew it was coming but it still took me by surprise.

I did a little searching to find the following article from USA Today.  Interesting stats.  Check it out.

Were you ready for the switch?  Let me know how your experience was with the switch from analog to digital.  I intend to still use my TV for video games and watching movies.  Hope you are seeing more than snow on your TV.  Well remember to rescan your TV or better yet come to the library and get a book, movie or game.

Green guidelines help consumers

Good Housekeeping is adding a new seal to help protect consumers from tainted products and false claims. This new green seal will provide a standard criteria for consumers to make an informed decision about their product use based on its energy use, composition, waste, water use, effort to reduce packaging and health impacts.

Cyber Crime

Have you been a victim of a cyber crime?  Have you heard of IC3?  It’s a place where cyber crimes can be reported and the data turned over to the authorities.  Check out their mission statement at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.  It’s a good place to remember if you or someone you know becomes a victim.  IC3 also accept email scams, so if you are tired of those annoying emails trying to get money or personal information from you, then here’s a place to report it.  Act now.

Another tip: read the “avoid scams” section of any website before you make a purchase (eg. EBay http://reviews.ebay.com/Ebay-Scams-14-things-you-MUST-know_W0QQugidZ10000000001410441?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:SEARCH:4  or Craig’s List http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams).

Be a smart consumer and don’t let those criminals make you a victim.

Government spending

Did you watch Pres. Obama’s first Address to Congress Tues. night (Feb. 24)?  I got hooked and had to watch until the end.  He mentioned we could track government spending at http://www.recovery.gov/ Check it out and let us know what interesting stats you find.

Also, he said his goals would be based on three topics, Education, Health Care and one other?  What was it?

Do you agree with me that he seems to act truely as a “father” to our country, someone who cares about doing things correctly and fair?  What is your impression of his presidency so far?
