It is commonly said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, so why not make them stand out? This is easy to achieve with the tips and tricks discussed in this post, in addition to some pops of color along the way of course. This is more important than ever now since the pandemic took over. With masks covering up half of our faces, we rely on the eyes to shine bright. First and foremost, color is an important factor here. For example, each eye color reacts differently with various pigments and hues whether you have green, blue, or brown eyes.
Green eyes tend to pop with red tones since those are complementary colors (colors opposite of each other on the color wheel), which will be discussed in more depth in a different post. This color combination is a bit extreme, but it does the job of making your eyes pop. If you still want to achieve this look, but are having doubts about using reds, pinks can be opted-out for a more subtle look instead. If you are going for more of an Earthy vibe, tones such as greens and browns are great to achieve this. The green on green color scheme enhances the hue for a powerful eye look. On the other hand, brown adds subtlety to the eye, but still makes it defined enough where the color pops.
Blue eyes can be paired with orange and gold colors for a bold look since they are also complementary colors. Another substitute can be made here to achieve a toned down version of this using peach or pink tones. These hues still have undertones of orange, but aren’t nearly as bold or pigmented on the eye if you don’t want to wear a bright color. For someone who wants a pop of color, plum is a great option since blue and purple are part of an analogus color family (a group of colors that are next to each other on the color wheel). Plum fits in nicely with more natural tones since it is deeper in pigment and not as bright as orange or gold. This is a safe option to experiment with color for people who are new to doing so.
Brown eyes are versatile since this is not a hue on the color wheel, so color combinations are not as theory based such as the ones above. For example, a bold look for brown eyes could include greens since they compliment each other with their Earth undertones. Gold, copper, and bronze always capture the depth of brown eyes well since there can be flakes of these hues within brown eyes. Using these colors can enhance the other hues that can be found in brown eyes that may be hard to see by themselves. These hues have more of an orange color base to them, so it can also bring out the warmth in brown eyes as well.
