The beginning of every new call of duty season and title brings many changes to the competitive scene, even with the current change to franchising. This year is no different, with Call of Duty Vanguard just releasing last week on Nov 5. The CDL (Call of Duty World League) is set to kickoff in December.

While there are many different changes coming into the competitive scene, the biggest changes before the CDL season are always roster changes. This year being no different then last, big names changing teams to chase a title. Some of the most notable roster changes

  • Crimsix to New York Subliners
  • Envoy to 100 Thieves
  • Octane to 100 Thieves
  • Cheen retiring

While these roster changes of some of the big name players are important. Another huge change that is coming, Chicago OpTic and Dallas Empire are set to merge to become the Dallas OpTic. This is a huge change as for the last 3 years of the league the team based out of Chicago has changed names and team members each year, with this year being no different.

The main issue with this team being rebranded each year, is the goal of the CDL was to gain exposure, brand recognition, and a fan base outside of the normal esport scene. But with the rebranding it’s hard to see and understand if the owners truly care about their spot in the league and the overall scene of the CDL.

The other owners of the league have shown they care about their spot, spending high amounts of money each and every year to buy players contracts out and bring them over to their team. Bring in individuals that help with more than just the physical side of playing video games, such as nutritionists, mental preparedness coaches, and others to make sure their teams are at the top of their ability.

With the drop of the new Call of Duty, and the investment of the players and organizations into the CDL along with all the sponsors. It could be set up as the best year for the most opportunity for growth for the CDL.
