As we get closer to Halloween, it is time to review a chilling Netflix favorite.
Stranger Things is a very well-known show on Netflix. It has had several nominations for the Emmys, SAGs, Golden Globes, Grammys, and Director/Screen Actor Guilds, and more. Besides the countless nominations, the show has won some awards from People’s and Critic’s Choice, Screen Actor Guilds, Prime Time awards, and a few others.
With Halloween only a few weeks away, it was only fitting to include Stranger Things because it is a dark show that involves supernatural occurrences and terrifying monsters. The showed first aired on July 15, 2016, then October 27, 2017, and lastly July 4, 2019. Between the first and second season, the show incorporated Halloween episodes into the plots.
There are currently three seasons of Stranger Things and a fourth one on the way. This show follows Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) who meet this strange girl, Eleven, (Millie Bobby Brown) that has strange abilities. Hawkins, Indiana was a quiet town full of life, but that changed when a secret testing site lost their prized pupil Eleven. Besides Eleven, something else escaped. A creature known as the Demogorgon begins to wreak havoc in Hawkins which led to the disappearance of Will Byers. After Bill goes missing, his mother Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sherriff Hopper (David Harbour) try to find him while the rest of the boys try to help Eleven and learn about the Demogorgon.
With the start of a new series, season 1 tends to be slow. The characters are introduced and the plot slowly starts to form. However, with season 1 of Stranger Things, there were only a few slow bits throughout each episode instead of having one or two slow filler episodes. Also with the introduction of a new type of monster, the Demogorgon arc explores interdimensional plots about two worlds coexisting on Earth. With season 2, the show picked up by adding more versions of the Demogorgon and there was character development as well as the introduction of new characters. Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) became the most popular character by season 2 because his character arc switched from the “mean popular guy” to the “cool babysitter”. Lastly with season 3, the season explored the reality of something greater than the Demogorgon, and that there are more people like Eleven.
If you enjoy dark science fiction horror shows, then Stranger Things is the show for you. The show takes you through fun, dark, and twisting events as you watch the different characters deal with different events that all start to link together towards the end.

Hello Lauren,
I started to watch Stranger Things when the first season came out, but I never really got into it. I know, like a lot of shows, it develops more and gets better after the first season. I also have been interested in watching more shows on Netflix lately, so maybe I’ll continue watching it! Some of the details, including the development of the Demigorgon sound intriguing as well!

I’ve heard that Stranger Things is regarded as one of the best shows on Netflix, but I’ve never really been interested enough to watch it. My opinion is probably an unpopular one, but from what I have seen of it, I have criticisms of some of the acting and script in Season 1 because I know a lot about film and sometimes look at the film making aspects more than other things. The cast was very young in the first season so they aren’t bad actors, but I do think there is some general bad acting at times and that kind of stuff turns me away. My brother loves the show, though.

I have never seen Stranger Things but after reading your article I am more intrigued to watch. I really am not a fan of dark shows or ones that are heavily influenced by science fiction. I would say like shows that are happy and light. However, I haven’t tried watching a show like Stranger Things so, after your review, I think I might give it a chance!

I watched the first season of Stranger Things about 2 years ago, and I never got back into it. I always hear people talking about it and saying that I should watch it. After reading this post, I think I have decided that I will start watching it again because it seems so interesting and entertaining!
