It’s the spookiest time of the year, time to review some scary shows…

The Haunting of Hill House is a ten episode mini series on Netflix that is full of fright, suspense, laughter, and heartbreak. This show will never fail to keep you on your toes when waiting for the next jump-scare.

The Crain siblings grow up at Hill House while their parents try to fix the place up in order to make it more family-friendly. However, what they come to realize is that the house has a troubling past and is accompanied by some unwelcomed guests. Each episode flashes between the past and present in order to fill in gaps as the story unfolds. So if you enjoy chilling ghost stories/shows then this is a must-see.

Viewers watch as Steven (Michiel Huisman), Shirley (Elizabeth Reaser), Theodora (Kate Siegel), Luke (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), and Eleanor (Victoria Pedretti) deal with their mother’s (Carla Gugino) mysterious passing at Hill House as well as trying to process their time living there. Although they never wanted to go back to the house, something, or someone, keeps bringing them back. As an unexpected tragedy strikes the Crain family, everyone begins to question Hill House, and it seems that their father (Timothy Hutton) has been keeping secrets from them about their mother’s death.

If you scare easily, then make sure you watch this with a friend or surround yourself with blankets because the ghosts that inhabit Hill House are very unsettling. Their movements are slow, they’re uncomfortably quiet, and they can be seen as background characters throughout most of the scenes. It was actually a whole ordeal to spot every ghost in the background when the show was first released. For those of you who have already seen or plan on watching the show, you can click here to see if you spotted all of them. Geek Girl Authority created a guide on where and when each ghost appeared.

I would recommend The Haunting of Hill House to viewers who enjoy watching creepy and dark TV shows. Also, this show is TV-MA due to heavy amounts of swearing, sexual content, used of drugs, depictions of death, and how dark the story is. So it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. However, the plot is well-thought out, the cinematography is phenomenal due to several one-take scenes, and the show never has a dull moment.
