Week 6 Game Summary: Packers vs. Lions

Coming into this game the Packers were 4-1, looking to stay in first place in their division against a division rival in the Lions on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The Packers were missing their top receiver Davante Adams for the second straight game, which left the question about who the main target would be for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That question was answered with the answer of Allen Lazard, young 23 year old wide receiver for the Packers who had 4 receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Packers 23-22 victory over the Lions.

The Lions were off to a hot start in this game, in which the first play was actually a 60-yard flee flicker pass from quarter back Matthew Stafford to wide receiver Kenny Golladay. Although they did end up settling for a field goal on that drive and made the score 3-0 Lions. The Packers then got the ball but they were forced to punt, giving the Lions the ball back. The Lions then quickly drove down the field again and capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown rush by running back Kerryon Johnson, making the score quickly 10-0 Lions after just 8 minutes of football. On the Packers next drive they were moving the ball quite effectively but ultimately the drive ended in a fumble by Packers running back Aaron Jones giving the Lions the ball back again without a score from the Packers. The Packers were again able to hold the Lions to a field goal after a long drive making the score Lions 13 and the Packers 0. The outlook for the rest of the game was quite gloomy, but little did we know Aaron Rodgers had something up his sleeve. The Packers were able to drive down the filed with some help from Lions penalties and score to make the score 13-7 Lions on a touchdown run form Packers running back Jamaal Williams. On the following drive the Packers were able to force a punt thanks to a 3rd down sack by Packers outside linebacker Za’darius Smith giving him his 6th sack of the year in as many games. The next drive the Packers settled for a field goal making the score 13-10 Lions at the half, and all of a sudden the Packers were back in it.

The Packers received the second half kickoff, and quickly drove down the field and kicked a field goal, making the score even at 13. After a defensive stop and a muffed punt from the Packers return man, the Lions managed to kick another field goal, making the score 16-13 Lions. The Packers next drive was a turnover on downs giving the Lions the ball back, and once again drove down the field and kicked a field goal making the score 19-13 Lions. A phenomenal catch and throw for the Packers on the following drive got them down to the Lions 15-yard line. On that same drive the Lions intercepted a pass that was intended for a packers wide receiver that bounced off of his helmet and was caught by the other team. The Lions then drove down and kicked yet another field goal by kicker Matt Prater making him 5-5 on field goals for the day and making the score 22-13 Lions. The Packers then scored another touchdown the following drive on a 35-yard touchdown reception from Packers receiver Allen Lazard making the score 22-20 Lions. The Packers then got a defensive stop and got the ball back and Packers kicker Mason Crosby kicked a game winning field goal as time ran out giving the Packers the win on a score of 23-22. Making the Packers 5-1 through 6 weeks on the season. The Packers have another upcoming home game against the Oakland Raiders. See you on Saturday for a game preview. Have a great rest of your week!

Week 6 Preview- Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

Following a great win in week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers look to keep their momentum going in the week 6 match-up against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field. The betting line for this game is currently sitting at the Packers as 4.5-point favorites to beat the Lions. In my opinion, betting lines in the NFL don’t mean that much because they are heavily dependent on who is the home team, which doesn’t always mean everything. The Packers have struggled over the last two years against the Lions mostly due to the fact that Aaron Rodgers has had injury problems over the last two years. But the Packers are hopeful coming off of a career game for running back Aaron Jones and just a great offensive performance overall. If they continue that and their defense plays well, I believe that the Packers will win this game quite handily, I would say by more than the betting line suggests. Not to mention, this game is a very important game for both teams as they are both a part of the NFC North, and the Packers are in first at 4-1 and the Lions are in second at 2-1-1. The Packers would have a pretty large lead in the NFC North only through six weeks if they can pull this win off this week against the Lions. Going into week 5 the Green Bay Packers were optimistic that they would be able to sneak a win out in Dallas against a Cowboys team that had the same record as them at 3-1. This optimism came up big against the Cowboys as they were able to walk away with a 34-24 win and move their record to 4-1 heading into a crucial Monday night football divisional game against the Detroit Lions. This is an important game as the Lions are in second place in the NFC North, the same division as the Packers.

Packers Running Back Aaron Jones following one of his career-high 4 touchdowns against the Cowboys in Week 5.

On the way to the 34-24 victory over the Cowboys, the Packers enjoyed a career game from running back Aaron Jones in which he scored an astounding 4 touchdowns. The Cowboys started with the ball and drove down the field pretty quickly until the Packers corner back Jaire Alexander intercepted a pass tipped off of the hands of Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper. The packers quickly drove down the field and scored on an 18-yard touchdown run by Packers running back Aaron Jones making the score 7-0. The Cowboys drove down the field again and were stopped at the 45-yard line and punted. The Packers started their next drive at 11-yard line and had another solid drive down the field and scored on another touchdown rush by Aaron Jones making the score Packers 14 and Cowboys 0. The Cowboys had another decent drive down the field that was halted by another interception by the Packers defense. There was then no scoring until the packers kicked a field goal to make the score 17-0. The Cowboys missed a 50-yard field goal with less than a minute left in the 1st half. The Packers took a 17 point lead into halftime, but the Cowboys wouldn’t go away in the second half. The Packers scored again at the beginning of the second half on Aaron Jones 3rd touchdown run of the game and made the score 24-0. With 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter the Packers were up 31-3 on Aaron Jones 4th touchdown of game, but the Cowboys came roaring back and made the Packers and their fans a little worried and the final score ended up being 34-24. The Packers upcoming game against the Detroit Lions on Monday night football is their most important game thus far this season as they look to improve to 5-1. Stay tuned for predictions for the game against the Lions.

Packers vs. Cowboys Week 5 Pre-Game Analysis

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott

A match-up that fans have been waiting for all year is finally here. This Sunday the Green Bay Packers travel to Dallas to face a non-divisional rival in the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams have been great thus far this season and come into the game with a 3-1 record. Both teams are coming off of their first loss of the season in the previous week. The Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night football last week by a score of 34-27, while the Cowboys are coming off of a 12-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Both teams will be hungry for a win coming off of their first losses of the season and would much rather prefer being 4-1 rather than 3-2. Coming into this game the Dallas Cowboys are 3.5 point favorites according to ESPN, mostly due to the fact that the game is in Dallas. The most important thing in this game for the Packers to do is to stop the run, because the Packers are allowing 140 rush yards per game this season, and Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot is among the most talented backs in the league. The Packers will be taking a large hit to their offense, dominant wide receiver Davante Adams suffered a foot injury against the Eagles last week and is not expected to play vs. the Cowboys. However, the Cowboys will be taking a big hit to their offensive line as star offensive tackle Tyron Smith will not be taking the field. This makes you wonder if the Cowboys offensive line will be able to handle a Packers pass rush that has had a great season thus far. This should be a great match-up between two NFC powerhouses that are off to a great start this year, I predict a final score of Green Bay 31 and Dallas 28. Stay tuned for a recap of this game early next week! Go Packers!
